Is it just me or has the world gone mad
Reading the paper tonight about how gay men are not allowed to give blood due to data showing they are a high risk.
What cracked me up though was the person at the Universities that were complaining about it.
They were the LGBT Officers
Thats right - each Uni has a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Officer
Wonder if there is a straight officer

Following the last faux pas regarding Blood , where heamophilliacs, were given hiv contaminated blood, with obvious consequences, all blood is screened,
if blood is found to be contaminated, it is destroyed.
Mart
all pregnancys now have hiv screening as a mater of course.

Its also about the health of the nurses and doctors taking the donations. Remember we'e talking about needles and blood, and avoidance of risk has to be a priority. And again why accept donations from a group of the population where there is an increased chance that the donation will eventually be rejected. There are many groups excluded from donating, not just gay men, intravenous drug users, people who have had sex with prostitutes, people who have had sex with someone from African countries where HIV infections are high, those who have received blood in the past, been tattoed recently, etc etc. The blood donor service is set up to receive and process donations, not to be a handy infection testing service.

It's an issue for someone coming to terms with being gay therefore there is help on hand for them.
So you want one for heterosexual people coming to terms with their hetrosexuality as well do you? Fair enough but I don't think they're gonna get many people coming to them worried about how to deal with their straightness.

Perhaps they are protecting the recipients from infectious diseases that aren't known about yet? How would you feel if you found out further down the line that you had been infected with gayness from a blood transfusion?
