Rubbish choice of new mobiles!
My mobile deal is up next week and the current choice of phones is pretty dire IMO.
I currently have a SE S700i which I have been happy with....
The best of a bad bunch at the moment seem to be the -:
Nokia N70
Sony Ericsson W800
Samsung D600
Ummmm, that'll be it then.
the Nokia N80 certainly looks interesting but seems like it'll not be here till summer
Anyone got any thoughts on the above three I've mentioned?

SE 800 dont bother, get the K750i instead, the only differances are.
no flight mode for mp3 playing
smaller add on memory card 64mb as opposed to 512
given that they wont allow any phones on in an aircraft, it makes the flight mode useless,
(firmware reflash is available for the 750i
D600 good bits the movies and the tv out,
bad bit, its a bu**er to open compared to the D500, .. No IR and the menus and texting operations are poor

BA are the worst, i used to take my treo 600 regulary(SP) when i travelled.
despite it having a flight mode, i had major battles with BA to let me use it onboard. (which on some occasions i lost )
Actual PDA,s however were no problem
The 900, looks more like a pda than a phone
Given the W800, is a dedicated phone with mp3 player, you will find it hard to convince them otherwise.

this gives you the flight mode, and one button mp3player.
It does invalidate your warranty however
to clarifyt on the mem cards... you can use upto 1 gig mem sticks in the phones...
the 750i comes with a bundled 64mb card, whereas the W800 comes with a 512 mb card

sorry prehaps i should have left a space..
They wont allow any phones Turned 'on' to Phone mode in an operating aircraft. flight mode is a different matter.
however they dont know every phones capabilities, and will more often than not if it dosent look like a pda, request you turn it off.

I am waiting for thre P990 too, despite having had an upgrade available to me since november, there has just been nothing worth getting.
I tried the W800 and the N70, but hated them both after being used to the P910i functionality.
You could look at the Nokia 6280 which is due out in a few weeks. Is a slidey phone like the D500/600 but is 3G and has nokia style.
Have to admit, I do prefer SEs myself these days.

Agree, ****e choice at the moment. I stumped for the D600 and am very happy with it, although mart is right about the slide and the texting.
I almost waited for the nokia 6280 but it is the same size as my old 6260 which was far too big really, shame really cos i love a nokia.

I've got a SE S700i at the moment which I've had no problems with at all
I was having a play with a Nokia N70 yesterday and apart from the number buttons being a little on the small side for me (I've got chunky fingers which I'm sure you can appreciate is not an issue with the S700i) I have to say I was quite impressed with it, so I'd defo recommend a look
The other 2 I'm afriad I can't comment on but historically I haven't found the Samsung phones to be all that great.
Cheers

SE 800 every time, great phone. The 750 is nearly as good, but you will need to get an increase in Mb plus update the operating system or whatever you call it.
When I download tunes to my 800, it creates the artist and album, just like a normal MP3 player.
On my mates 750 it just creates a whole list of tunes.
On both you can create your own playlists to negate the issue with the 750, but I think the 800 is just that little bit better... and it looks nice!

I flew BA to/from Melbourne just before Xmas. In the pre-flight announcement they mentioned anyone with phones that had flight mode, should switch flight mode ON, then turn phones off completely before takeoff. Then after takeoff and once the seatbelt lights are off, you can switch you phone back on, as it will come back on in flight mode.

Plus the joystick is too low with the 800 case...
K750i quiet and understated, and can easlity have a firmware flash
voila K7/850i

Ok how do you reflash a K750i with firmware for an 800i then? I have the falsh updater program from SE but it's all automatic, it interrogates the phone and requests the right ROM version automatically.
Would be interested in learning how to make it into an 800i.

Never thought of it that way.

Quite happy with my N70, apaprt from the dinky buttons which are a a pain.
Perhaps you are just putting too much effort into choosing, its a mobile phone not a house move.

When is the W810i out? First quarter of 06 I've read somewhere but there's no mention on the O2 site even in the 'coming soon' bit. Would much prefer this to the 800, not really convinced any of the options are much better than my D500 though really.

you can turn of the flight mode, and dim the screen/ sleep mmode, but there is no physical way to turn them off, BA used to get really ars*y
