Sky High def

Channels are not up and running yet - just a teaser campaign that refers you to their website for registration - a cheap and easy way of building their marketing list for them.
AFAIK their original plan was to launch with the World Cup Footy in a few months time.

Sky dont have the rights to the WC so it'd be a bit pointless IMO....
Telling you its all hyped up beyond belief. Maybe in a years time you can consider getting it seriously at a cost of £50 a month....

So trialing a few programs. that is dated back n November but if you know any different feel free to let me know.
Shows though that theyre predicting 2010 before theyre broadcasting all their programs and the BBC dont really have many channels to get through.... Speaks volumes about what to expect from the HD service from everyone IMO.

Think what they're on about on the BBC web site is HD via Freeview in 2010. This may only really become a possibility after the analogue switch off and subsequently some spare bandwidth becoming available.
Various broadcasters are planning to launch high definition channels in 2006, including the BBC which is planning to show the World Cup in high definition.

Still not convinced that they'll be broadcasting live HD Images for the WC...
Time will tell, we're only less than 4 months away til kick off.
Dont see it happening myself (not saying it wont but Id be suprised)

The BBC have it sorted http://www.bbcresources.com/postprod...ndon/high.html
Some German company are recording the WC in HD and will most likely sell it to all and sundry.

With Sky, what wound me up was the fact that all program material is recorded in HD, so you can understand the need to pay for the transmitting of "normal" TV, but to pay an additional premium for something that is actually easier for them to transmit!!!
Money for old rope springs to mind....
However, the only justification for a higher fee is the rise in transmission bandwidth required.....
Still a rip off!!

REALLY!!!???
I may have that wrong then - but I'm pretty sure that some of the channels were raw HD prior to broadcast......
With reference to the other comments, there's a phrase that springs to mind that's quite apt "A fool and there money........." :P
I've seen HD, and was very impressed but not enough to warrant paying even more for something that won't be embraced wholeheartedly by the general population for a long time - think how long it took the BBC to get their digital service up and running.
I'm sure it will be very good, but not just yet
