We always stay at the Grand Krasnapolsky behind Dam Square.
No matter how central you are, it will still take absolutely hours to find your way there at the end of the night!!!!

The Winter Garden is just so lovely to have breakfast in.

I've stayed at the Park Hotel (just across the road from the casino) and you can walk to the Vondelpark and museums in just 10 mins.
It's near Leidesplein that's is a nice square that has most things. 20 mins walk to the Red light distict.

I slept in the hotel linen cupboard last time I stayed in Amsterdam. Still, I didn't pay, and they offered me the next night FOC for my trouble.
