Can I bump start a diesel?
Talking about an old banger here, a few years old 205 TD. I tried it some time back and after gaining some speed on a hill I let the clutch in but this really shook up the transmission which I guess is due to high compression ratio on a diesel? Any thoughts from peeps who know more about diesels than I do?? dl

yeah, definately! evan though there would need to be a small amount of power in the battery to operate the stop switch o n the diesel pump! otherwise it cant get fuel, if it wont push tow it!

Depends whether it has glow plugs !!!
If it does, these need pre-heating (especially in the cold at the moment), if it doesn't have, a drag with a car will do it.
'Easy Start' will also help you start it, just spray some up the air intake.
My advice would be, charge the battery.
Nate.

I'm learning a lot here
I did try towing and bent the tow hook under the front of the car before the tow rope busted But I then found some jump leads.......
Yes it has glow plugs so I assume these will warm up as soon as I turn on the ignition.
Agree charging battery is a good idea but there is an impossible-to-find intermittent fault between ignition and starter which means it will rarely not turn over even when battery (new) is full charged. Have checked all usual things like battery earth etc.
My son passed his driving test yesterday ( ) so I am just trying to give him options if he breaks down or when he leaves lights on and flattens battery!! dl

get one of those portable jump start packs (a battery with leads attached). Has got me out of a couple of scrapes.
It really does need glow plugs warming, as it will take forever, and you could damage the engine.
My transit hasn't got injectors, and in theory could be tow started, but prefer jump leads or a well charged battery .
AA membership is also good
