Should China be allowed to host the Olympics...
when they have so many atrocities happening in their country and the International community are not doing enough to pressure them into changing?
This is a current topic thats a good reason for them to be frozen out of International events in my opinion

let alone their human rights abuses with how they kill babies born to families breaking birth laws (which of course is way more important than the above subject but seems to get very little International condemnation )
There have been some shocking documentaries on TV about how the authorities operate in taking babies and killing them yet they are allowed to continue to do so
China seems to be a law unto themselves as far as International laws are concerned

IMHO - NO! they have a shocking record on human rights and their treatment of animals is just dreadful.
They say you can measure a civilsation by how threy treat their animals well the Chinese have a lot to improve!"
The other side of the coin is that if you do not encourage them to change by alowing them to host the Olympics then they will not.
even so I would not let them host it until they sort their act out and lwt them know that the reasons why.

Rational answer - no.
Real world/politician answer, in light of the fact that China is likely to become one of the fastest growing export markets over the next twenty years or so - of course they should, and here's a great big carpet under which to sweep everything we're certain the Chinese authorities have in hand.

Do you really think that our brave modern politicians would risk offending China with its building economy or that they actually give a stuff about the human rights issue?

Indeed. And if you asked a sunni muslim in Basra, they might not feel we're doing much better now.
I'm not equating Britain with China, but let him who is free from sin cast the first stone etc. The US looks pretty poor in human rights terms too, what with Guantanamo, renditions and illegal taps.
I'd rather live here than China even so. But very countries have a spotless record in that department.
I think the argument that the attention might lead to greater transparency is more persuasive than the human rights boycott one.
