I got a 2.5gb HDD MP3 player from KwikSave (only stopped for ciggies!) for £39.95. Made by Medion, a German brand.

So far, so good.

The battery life is really good. I use it in the car all week on one charge and I do about 700 miles a week!

No storage problems and although it's locked up once in about 6 weeks of ownership the soft reset cured that. It locked because I was negotiating the menus a bit too fast and got ahead of the machine. It's not slow, I just knew exactly where I wanted to be and got carried away.

It does the usual; Search by album/artist/genre/year, etc. and enables the setting up of 4 seperate favourite tracks lists to suit your mood. There's a full manual equaliser and about 20 presets giving a decent sound through the headphones.

Have never stored enough songs to fill it up but then I do tend to ditch some now and again rather than just keep pumping them in.

It synchs well with the pc software and has some other features like changing the start up screen, etc.

All in all, a bargain and I'm chuffed with it. If I had it on me now I'd give you the model number but my g/f has the car today as she's got the day off.

Categorically no.

If you put it next to your ear you can hear it but certainly not at arm's length in even a very quiet room.
