eBay question
I sold my Nokia 6170 with accessories yesterday and was pleased with the overall price.
However, after I invoiced the highest bidder, he said he lives in Germany and wanted to pay by BACS transfer (as he didn't have PayPal) and wanted my account details anf cost of P&P. I refused to give details and told him that if he can't do PayPal, I will accept a personal cheque or bankers draft which he said he can't arrange. He did, however, say that he would set up a PayPal account to ensure he didn't lose the phone.
I packaged everything up this morning and have sent him a number of emails in the last 6 hours to ask him if he's set up a PayPal account to proceed. I've also given him the option of backing out now if it's too much hassle (and mentioned that I won't leave negative feedback so I don't get any) but I'm not getting a response.
What are your thoughts? Shall I be patient or ruthless?
he has a feedback rating of 2 by the way, but hasn't bought anything for some months (and the feedback's in bloody german anyway!!)

Over in Germany (2nd biggest ebay site after the USA) BACS is the norm so thats probably why he wants top use it, BUT it willl cost you a few punds in charges to receive the money (so will Paypal) although he must be trusting because he wouldn't need to be able to do a charge back if there was a problem.

Am I being overly cautious about giving my bank details to him then? If in Germany this is indeed the 'norm' that may explain why he doesn't have a PayPal account.
Okay - next question - will the phone actually work out there with his SIM card? I always thought frequencies (or something) were different in each country?

The phone should work fine, its in Europe after all. All recent(ish) phones can cope with the necessary European bands
It gets tricky if you go to the US apparantly though

BACS is perfectly safe (I know this thread has been resolved but other may be interested) it is the prefered monetary transfer method for business. There is a small charge that is made to the sender (we pay about 40p a transaction here I think, and do all wages and supplier payments using it).
It takes about three days to clear and the sender has to be registerd with the BACS company, most software systems require that the sender using a daily changing password system to be able to set up transactions
Although the traditional BACS service is stopping in the UK at the end of the year it is being replaced with BACS IP, that will carry the encrypted payments across the internet and will operated at the sending end only if the user has a smart card that is issued to them by their bank.
