a parrot in uk quarantine has died from avian flu!!
thought it would be a bit longer before it got to us!!

I wouldn't get too worried. Media love the hype up and scaremongering. Look at all the fuss over SARS in Hong Kong. I was there the whole time and didn't have any significant issues. Remember BSE and CDJ - apparently most of us should be dead more or less about now if I remember some of the predictions correctly. They will contain any outbreak and the percentage who will die will be very low. It's a worry, but no need to think the world is coming to an end. Worst case is the media's case.

Ive just got back from 24hr Tesco - everyone is panic buying food, shelves are almost all clear - everyones walking about in masks!!Tried to fill the car up, but the petrol station was out of fuel due to panic buying!!
In the end I just thought sod it, and went for a KFC. Pretty dead in there

arrived on 16 September. They were also in quarantine with a consignment of 216 birds from Taiwan.
The mind boggles!
Birds are legally allowed to be imported from areas with avian flu.

Better start banning aircraft flights from anywhere because if you can't guarantee that everyone on board has been through decontamination they might be carrying it with them.....
....better start banning birds as well while we're at it....in fact let's go the whole hog and ban air in case the virus floats across from somewhere.
