Default Real chips!

Does anybody still make real chips or do you all buy frozen. I had the mis-fortune last night to have to eat Mc Cain oven chips as the kids cooked the tea and they were dreadful.

Can't beat a good old King Edward or Maris Piper spud to make chips. I cook them on a low heat first for about 5 mins, let them cool then blast them for a minute in very hot groundnut oil to get them nice and crispy.

Not to low heat though as the chips just soak up the oil and make them taste orrible

I'm a fan. Skins on, chunky, salt and pepper, splash of vinegar and a dip of choice - loverly.

I spent 6 months trying to find a crinkle cutter. Mmm, crinkle cut with loads of sea salt and Sarson's vinegar

Yes, I make them too. Got to be lard or dripping, though.

Talking

I remember my mum's old chip pan. Looked like it had survived a nuclear blast and had a four inch thick lard lake in it, solidified of course, with the wire basket well and truely entombed! You could take a core sample through the lard and tell the age of the fat by the crispy bits in it. Made wicked chips though.
