Anyone work in Human Resources,a few basic questions.
(All these assume the HR officer is female)
1.If you send an initial email say regarding where to send the application or have a question before you even apply for the job, to do you address the HR Officer as Ms or use her first name as is common in emails.
2.Do you still use the title Ms unless you know otherwise in covering letters.
3.If the job advert says, please write to.....does that mean hand write or is using a pc okay.I take it to mean dont email or phone.
4.In a covering letter what are the acceptable starts and ends.Dear Ms ******* and how do you end?
5.Im using the word 2000 letter wizard for a covering letter, anyone any better idea's.
cheers
Paul.

regarding 3. Ive always been taught to write your introducting letter but obviously your CV will be typed so you would give them a sense of PC skills and an idea of your own handwriting.....
Thats actually how I managed to get my job because I wrote in rather than typed something up.... Boss thought it was a ncie touch and gave me the edge
dunno if thats of nay use to you but there you go

Regarding question 1 i also thought using her first name in an email was a bit informal so i used Dear Ms *******.
She replied using my first name.
It was a question about where to send the application.

HR -- they're all scum anyway
I presume you already have an e-mail from HR? If you're addressed as Paul, I'd reply with her first name. Only do the Ms. thing if you've been addressed as Mr. R.

Dude if you are writing to HR to apply for an internally trawled post I wouldn't worry too much about the P's and Q's. focus on the essential criteria and make sure you demonstrate on your app that you meet them and then some.
Good luck with it. Not an HR practitioneer, just my own views from experience.

Hi Katie,
Shame about the career change not working out but it got me thinking - how do you fancy a ****.

Indeed, if she's in the same building go and talk to her. Then shark her at the Xmas party irrespective of job success
