LCD TVs 32" - any thoughts!?
Hi all,
Thinking of changing the CRT to a LCD ready for Sky HD and HD DVDs etc. Has anyone taken the plunge and bought one recently? I am currently looking at Samsung, Panasonic etc and any recommendations on where to buy would be good.
Many thanks!!

bearing in mind we're almost in October, Id recommend hanging back a little. Christmas is around the corner, I can see the January sales starting early again, get yourself a knocked down price 1 later in the year...
p.s. go with a plasma instead lol

Funnily enough, I was looking at them today. I still think the picture on them seems to be very poor in comparison with a normal television, unless a DVD is being played through them. Even then, sometimes the picture seems 'blocky'.
Is HDTV going to fix this problem?
By the way, I was looking at some different models, and in terms of looks I liked the Loewe designs the best.

Thinking of something like this myself.
Bought a 36"toshiba 3 years ago, excellent, but like all electrical products got dated very quickly.
P1sses me off coz the bugger wont break down(give me an excuse to get a new one)and its so big compared to the new line of products...its mprobably not worth much s/h even.
Anyone know if there are any drawbacks to buying an LCD or plasma?

LCD's only go up to about 37".
Plasma life is much better now but they still can suffer from burn-in of logos for example.
You'll probably have to pay well over £2000 for a decent HDTV.

Kevin, the modern plasmas should last you over 20 years presuming its being used for 8hours a day.... Just as long as any CRT IMO.... as for Burn in. only your cheapies will suffer from this, unless you leave the same channel on for 24hours or something you'll be fine....

I bought an LCD about a year ago. I had it in my mind to buy a plasma but then the very kind man in the electrical store told me that personally he prefered the picture quality of the LCD. He then moved an LCD next to the plasma and "blow me down with a feather" the picture quality was better. That was comparing a like for like tv. i.e lower in the price range.
Go LCD and never look back

I bought a samsung LCD from empiredirect a few months ago... 32" HDTV ready...£830 incl vat and delivery... now...sitting close to it on a crap source it looks a bit crap.... U need to sit further away (2-3m) for it to look good. You can really see the potential of the screen though when you plug it into your PC.... then....it blows you away with the quality!!
I presume HDTV will be as good as this when it arrives!
In the meantime I have a 37" monitor

And if you think it's nuts, read the mags. Most agree that a good plasma is the best, then a decent CRT, then LCD. Trouble is, there are so many crappy versions of all three you can easily be swayed.
Not like buying hi-fi when you can test it in the right place (ie a lounge)...
I'd wait and buy a plasma in the sales, which is HDTV ready...

ER ER!
It was price which was steering people away from LCDs. Now, pound for pound LCDs are much better quality.
I agree that a good quality CRT is better quality, but they're just sooooooooo big. For Sky+ / DVD / Gaming / PC the LCD is the overall winner IMO.

hmm, some very strange views here....
LCD is the future, well actually no its not, there a new technology out soon which will superseed it (name escapes me) although if you want something bigger than 40", you will have to go for plasma.
plasma is far too expensive as far as im concerned, especially for a HDTV compatible.
if you feed an LCD a crap input (ie any current broadcast tv) then you WILL get a crap piccy, feed it a decent input like DVD or true HDTV feed then the results are nothing short of OUTSTANDING!
tip: see for youself, goto comet, currys, dixons ask for a proper demo of a PROGRESSIVE dvd feed and NOT ****ty link they have on all the screens on display.
then buy online...

I think LCD will get better but at the moment its definately below plasmas. you cant beat a CRT picture at the minute but as said, theyre a big ugly block that sits in the corner of the room, since getting the plasma our front room looks twice as big
