Comedy week in Glasgow
I have had one of those weeks this week. Been in Glasgow for work and this is hows its gone....
Monday eve - flew from Heathrow to Glasgow. Got in taxi and the driver suffered from frantic talking disease. Took us the scenic route to the Holiday Inn Theatreland, past the Barrowlands and told us we should go to the Barras Market on Sunday as there will be loads of dodgy gear there. He said we would be safe as houses as they love southerners there. Insisted on calling me and me mate Jim all the way to the hotel. Got to hotel and although I had booked a non-smoking room, i got a smoking one and it stank.
Tues - tried to change rooms but no joy so ended up getting a room at the Millenium. Taxi driver from Holiday Inn to work (near Parkhead) was grumpy. Went out in eve and ended up in O'Neills, did the pub quiz and came second to last (would have been last without GPRS and Google). Had Italian and went to 80s club and got spannered...
Wed - Had taxi driver from work to the hotel who told us the entire history of Irn Bru and how it came about. Guys ar Barrs put us right when we got there. Went to see "The Business" at the cinema. Absolutely wicked.
Thu - Changed hotels again to the Jurys Hotel. Thought it was the Jurys Inn in Jamaica Street (great, was full of totty) only to be let down and told we were in the other one. Mental taxi driver appeared and took ages to get there, telling us how he had split up from his wife and taking us on a scenic drive through the grounds of the hospital to the Hotel. Hotel is minging. Pubes on the toilet and it wont flush. Went to cinema again (keeps us out of the pubs!!!!) and saw Revolver. We both agreed the review should be "Tries to cross Tarantino, Kubrick and Hitchcock with Lock Stock and fails". Disappointing, especially the ending which was bizarre. Stepped out of cinema into "Floyd Cab". Driver with a mullet and Pink Floyd on full pelt. Arm out of window shouting at women. He was like a one man crusade into the night, on a one way trip to Floydland. Got back to hotel and wedding reception in full swing. Now off to bed and the week hasnt even finished yet !!!!!

Sounds pretty normal for Glasgow to me - and I'm speaking from experience here! We once had a taxi journey where we were convinced the driver had actually sh@t himself - the smell was eye-watering and he kept squirming in his seat!

Or have a touch more class than the typical weegie
As for the good and bad points - yeah, Edinburgh has its rough parts and the houses are too expensive, but being branded the Murder Capital of Western Europe takes the biscuit in this debate, don't you think?

I love the term "theaterland" LOL
That's called the Gorbals - nasty place, not somewhere you'd want to be. The reference to theaterland is because of the citizens theater. Poetic licence being taken to the extreme....
"Jim" is a standard term for old school Glaswegians, like "mate" is used in England.
Holiday inns in Glasgow are not all Great. Likewise the millenium (it has good and bad rooms depending on your luck) and as you have said The "other" Jurys hotel is crap.
Somehow you've picked the worst hotels in the worst part of the City ....
Glasgow is a great place, you've just been unlucky so far

Hmm, tough choice Murder capital or Gay capital .... I'll take my chances in Glasgow thanks.
Everyone knows a night out in Glasgow is way better than Edinburgh. East coasters are always trying to play catch-up
