Speed Awareness Course... Any interesting question i should ask???
of on one next wednesday for doing 38 in a 30 zone at 10 at night(ish).
so just wondering if there was any interesting questions i could slip in during the day.
like....
when most police cars go through scameras they do no get done......
a policeman doing 150mph does not get done!
who decides what are safe speeds with monden cars
etc etc
so anyone got any facts and figues i can take as well about stuff and people getting off with speeding.........

I hear the best thing to do is keep schtum and say nothing apart from "yes sir, no sir" if asked. Apparently they come down hard on people making smart remarks and can kick you off the course and give you the points instead.

bite your tongue, drive like an absolute muppet at the start of the course and then magically get better !
But be prepared for some serious rubbish being spouted at you re speeding accidents etc.

Like everyone has said, unproductive questions are likley to go down like the titanic. However, if you have a genuine question then ask! Its what you are there for - the instructors are often fairly well qualified and its a good chance to improve yourself.

I guess you'll get refreshed on stopping distances.
So: What is their data based on? (i.e How old is teh data? and when was it devised? What cars was it based on?..such as a 1976 Maxi on Dunlop Dunovans )
And how does that compare to say, a 1986 Fiesta with three passengers with nakang tyres and a brand new 2005 Evo IX with 6pot calipers and ABS as standard running on top of the range Good Year tyres
Genuine question IMO. The latter would probably stop in half the distance, but what is the table a closer reflection of?

why put speed restrictions in place if the very people who enforce them cannot stick to them...
CCTV camera van doing 90 mph on a dual carriage way being chased by a squad car!! i know i was following it... funny must of had invisible blues and two's as well...
or
Can i have a special number plate like the police do...
or another
would the police force be prepared to buy me a road angel ??
this way i'll know if i'm speeding at camera's

I believe the letter you get sent should say something like "citizens must show a marked improvement in attitude towards party policy by the end or they will be subject to the fine/points." With this in mind, as others have said, it may be useful to keep quiet and not get worked up. Of course you may be able to be difficult at the start but then demonstrate an improvement in attitude towards the end.
In some areas the courses are given by old codgers from the IAM. So expecting an open mind or a willingness to accept and address alternative opinions is unlikely to be a trait you will encounter. There are some simple points to consider when they try the speed kills rant:
The motorways are the fastest roads and also the safest ones.
Over 80% of pedestrians involved in accidents (if you go fast you will kill millions of children) are deemed by the police to be the responsible party with the cause usually "entered carriageway without looking."
The average speed of a pedestrian/vehicle accident is 11mph, despite all drivers being mad speeding nutters.
The figures used to justify the new cameras on the M4 indicate that the police believe that speed was a causal factor in less than 1% of the accidents (over 100 accidents) which have occured on the motorway since 1999.
Paul Garvin, Chief Constable of Durham, stated that speed was a factor in less than 3% of accidents but that in those cases there were almost other more serious factors such as drink, drugs or a stolen car.
So, not even the top cops believe speed kills.

Hedgehog statistics like that are really worrying. They know speed isnt a major factor in accidents but are quite happy to peddle the lie and collect the cash.

If you have got any sense you'll just do the course and accept the advice you get which will be relevant and worthwhile.
If you try to be a smartarse and take the **** they will sort you out in spades!, and you will get the points as well.

Remember this is a perfect opportunity for people watching - seeing who else in on the course and what they are like. You might end up with similar muppets to the series on TV with the worst drivers host by Quentin (Dracula) Wilson.
Look forward to a full report of the experience posted in NSR shortly

For more information about a campagn against the bull, and lots of verified information, such as a surpressed Dft study that shows that Speed Cameras make motorway road-works more dangerous go to Safe Speed. http://www.safespeed.org.uk/
Read the Forums or even join in - there are normal drivers, safety camera people, traffic police, accident investigators and more.

Actually, I'd just act humble and be glad you had an alternative to points!

Ask them why there is not one gatso in the St Helens borough, but more speed bumps than ripples on a fat birds bum...
Ask them if we can have the speed bumps removed which must be damaging my car (even at under the speed limit) and replaced with something that makes money and doesnt just cost money...
This town needs more speed cameras and traffic cars

tut tut, 38 in a 30 at 10pm. i mean ffs who fcukin cares, its such a marginal difference. if everyone in the country drove at 29 there wouldnt be any chance of getting anywhere. you could never not go over the limit driving all your life, if they had everyone that went over 30 in a day that course would need a football stadium not a classroom.
yes a small road with a school and parked cars, of course drive about 15-20 but some cases like this one are just a waste of money. over 50 maybe but 38

You could ask, why statistically as a percentage of cars to accidents, police cars have more accidents than members of the public despite them being highly trained drivers.
You could also ask why police cars based on the same figures kill and maim more people than joe citizen, and you could ask them have they considered a speed awareness course.
