Sky+
Phoned up Sky and asked them how much to upgrade, they gave us two options, £99 install and £10 per month (with existing box going into another room) or a straight swap for £260 inc install.
Rip off.
I don't want it in 2 rooms, so have a cunning plan.....
Phoned them up, said I wanted to cancel, they start asking why and do I want 3 months 1/2 price to reconsider, I say no but I'd love Sky+ but I don't want to pay £10 per month extra. Said they'd phone me back.
Got a phone call within the hour, saying they'd give me the box for £99 installed and no monthly fees.
Guy turns up today and installs the box, which is one of the new 80GB/40 hour boxes that are going to be standard as of 1st Sept. BONUS!!
Definitely recommend upgrading! It's awesome!
Plus, the guy left our old box here for us, which are currently selling for around £50-70 on ebay. So should only end up costing £50 for the whole deal. not bad.

I don't think it is a rip off. You only pay the £10pm fee if you don't have a sports or movie package so £99 for the convenience that Sky+ brings is well worth it IMHO.
Don't mind paying cheaper though

We do have sports, they basically don't give you the option of simply replacing the existing box unless you want to have your eyes out to the tune of 260 notes.
They're always trying to push you into having multiroom, which we don't want/need.

I tried the same thing about three months ago. I got passed about when I told them to cancel Sky if they did not give me the + box for £99 (the same deal they were offering new customers). In the end I canceled because they would not play ball. I also canceled my phone package and have not missed Sky one bit.

recently 'upgraded' my aging tivo to a sky plus 160, and gotta say, apart from the digital audio and twin channels, i'm v. dissapointed with it - nowhere near as flexible as the tivo, no search options, limited season pass functionality, and v. basic gui, no ai recording...etc etc
what a shame tivo isnt available in dual channel format.
