Another Ebay question.
I bid on a item 2 weeks ago but lost.
Two days after the auction i got an email from the seller offering me the items as a second chance bidder.I declined.
On Sunday i got another email for the same item as a second chance bidder but from a different ebay seller.
We haggled and he accepted. He says he is the partner of the first seller.
He wants my ebay details to do it properly through ebay. Can you still do this even at a lower price?
I must admit the whole transaction has a funny feel to it and there is no way i will pay any other way than cash on delivery. If it was a scam though surely he would accept my offer to do it outside ebay, but he insists on doing it properly. He also offered to deliver item(furniture) 300 miles for free.

Can we still do this even though its at a lower price?

does sound fishy to me but ebay does operate on trust so its really up to you but whatever you do DO NOT give anyone you're ebay details i.e username password etc.
Ive never used 2nd chance i mean why did the first sale not happen ?

Paul- He won't be able to process the original deal at a different price other than your losing bid unless he allows for you to fill in a buyers discount on the invoice, bringing the price down.
You haven't anything to be concerned about if you're insisting on COD, except your feedback if it goes through eBay channels, have you?
If it was a genuine 2nd chance offer then your details would be showing on his "selling items list" waiting for you to accept within a certain timescale.

I've used second chance offers when the winner has not paid. I have sold at the highest bid price that the losers wanted to pay. Not a problem and you don't have to pay twice the fees to relist it.
Just do it all through Ebay if you think it's fishy.

Paul - Now you have added the rest it appears to me to be a chancer trying it on having seen your username on the auction.
The "partner" is trying to extract money from you pretending to be "related" to the original seller, hence asking for your details which he shouldn't need to ask for.
This happens a fair bit, stay well away.

I've emailed the original seller asking for confirmation that someone else is handling the sale.

All of the "I want to do it through ebay" is probably a smokescreen if this guy is another seller and sent you what looked like a second chance offer email but with his user id, that is well risky!
Heres what to do (even the following has risks)
Email this "partner" (highly unlikely he is) and say you have the cash in your bank account, arrange a delivery date get him to drop off the furniture and tell him he can drop you to the bank where you will pay him with money you have taken out directly over the counter. (tell him he will know all the money is genuine and legit this way and its definetly the safest option for both parties, ie you dont want to mistakenly given him any duff notes etc
If he agrees to this hes legit, if he doesnt then theres a 99% he is'nt
Just keep saying over and over again in your head "if it sounds to good to be true it probably is"
Think of it this way if your job is a mechanic, you have to know how engines work, how to fix things, how to deal with paperwork etc you would be an expert in your field.
OR
if you were a scammer trying to get money out of people through ebay you would know all of the little tricks of how to do this, as well a pschologically (sp) knowing what and how people are thinking.

I've just emailed him asking the name of his partner(for security reasons).I know it because she left her name on the original emails i got from "ask seller a question".
