Mad day today. Got caught up in one of the police raids.
It's been a very strange day today.
Firstly, I was driving to London on the M4 eastbound this morning in terrible conditions, hit some traffic just before reading, and there was one of those high top transit vans in front of me in the fast lane, and I hate not being able to see in front of me in slow traffic.
Anyway, the middle lane was moving faster (as it often does) so when I had the chance I went into the middle lane, cleared the van and then almost immediately the traffic sped up again for no apparent reason or cause (again as it so often does), so I cut back into the fast lane.
After about a mile, back up to a steady 70mph I see more tail lights ahead of me, completely stationary. I started slowing down, checked my rear view mirror - the van was quite some distance behind.
As I was coming to a halt, I suddenly thought, completely out of the blue, 'imagine if the van didn't stop'.
Because it was clear in the middle lane still as I had only just come to a stop, at the last minute I decided to cut in, and as I did so, something large and white in my wing mirror caught my attention. It was the transit van locking up in the fast lane - completely sideways - it then gripped, hit the central reservation and then straight into the back of the car in the fast lane, which of course would have been me had I not just moved a second earlier.
I was pretty shaken up as you can imagine. But as I focused on driving again, I did notice a big BMW X5 in front of me with a very recognisable numberplate X500 xxx. I will explain the relevance of this later.
After various meetings in London, I began heading up to Cambridge. When nearing the North circular, not sure of the area - possibly somewhere near Tottenham / Finsbury Park - traffic was insanely bad literally hardly moving.
Suddenly lots of sirens and unmarked police cars coming from nowhere, stopping and jumping out with submachine guns etc. There was a whole Street just off the main road cordoned off, and lots of shouting. Of course because the traffic was so bad I was stuck right next to it all, and all I could think of was the Madrid scenario where the terrorists were cornered and set off a huge payload explosives in the block of flats.
Fortunately that didn't happen
However the traffic continued to be terrible, and I decided there would be no way I would make my meeting, and decided to head west on the North circular and head back to Bristol (in yet more log-jammed traffic).
Anyway, I pulled back onto the North circular right behind the same blue BMW X5 from this morning!
Very odd.
Anyway, I eventually got back to Bristol at 9pm, having left Clerkenwell EC1 at 3pm
Very annoying.
Oh, as an aside, turns out one of my friends was on the first carriage of the Aldgate tube.

Ah OK, you just saw the same X5 again, I had 2 trains of thought on it (excuse the pun, defo not intended):
1. Your mate owns the X5 and he climbed into it after the bomb to go home.
2. The X5 belonged to Mi5 and it was this car you saw during the raids.

It was just odd immediately after two scary situations (nearly getting smashed into and nearly getting caught up in a raid) to then immediately see the same car, many hours later and nearly 100 miles away, particularly given that I was actually meant to be heading to Cambridge.
