Detecting Bombs in Rucksacks
Haven't been around for a while, so apologies if this has been covered already. Thing is I'm curious about 'new security measures' and 'methods for detecting bombs in rucksacks' etc that are currently being developed to be used in places like the tube network.
All the articles I've read/ heard have focused on how to detect them and keep the passenger flow at a sensible rate.
My question is this - if you're dealing with a suicide bomber - and if some scanner detected that they were carrying a bomb, then what?
Who's going to apprehend them? By the time the police arrived they person would already be on their way. If anyone else tried to stop them with an 'excuse me sir/ madam but their appears to be something irregular with your rucksack' then they're just going to hit the detonator there and then.
I know there's a lot of debate around the shooting last week - but this is a bit of a different question. What are the people developing these machines hoping to acheive?

You stop suicide bombers by shooting anybody buying more than 50 litres of weedkiller in one go (apologies to any serious self-sufficiency gardeners out there).
Searches etc would only shift the targets .

Besides the bombs in question were acetone peroxide IIRC, which can be made easily from Hydrogen Peroxide, Acetone and Sulphuric acid. The basic components are easy enough to get hold of and the receipe can be found on the web easily enough.
