A lucky escape

A lucky escape
I nearly got on a bus in London around 9:40am this morning, but didn't as the driver got out and asked what road he was on. If he doesn't know the way I'll not bother, I thought. Had a few beers last night, the walk will do me good. Took a few back doubles and ended up in the office, keen to see what was going on with all the tube chaos.
The bus was at the top of Tavistock Square and Marylebone Road, heading down towards the BMA.
I didn't hear the explosion as I'd cut across a few blocks from there by the time it had pulled away again, but after hearing the driver of THE bus stopped and asked what road he was on too, I'm convinced I was even luckier than I initially thought..
See page 4 of the attached.. heard it on the radio this evening too. He didn't know where he was as he'd been diverted up by Euston Station where the fire engines were being let out..
Exactly the same as I saw it!

Feel like I'm in a Frank Capra movie this evening. Glad to be alive and back at home with the wife and kids.

Only 2 deaths on the bus so far apparently. The ground floor of the bus seemed to be pretty empty though I'm recollecting it correctly.

Are you thinking what I am thinking - That he may be in some way implicated as a potential suspect ? Can't rule anything out I guess.

Bit far fetched imho. I thought these guys knew London like the back of their hands.

It could be the driver's first week in the job. He/she could be new to London. He/she may have been put on a different & unfamiliar route from normal due to staff shortages.
AFAIK, it'snot a requirement of a bus driving job to know every street in London?
"far fetched"? The simple & logical explanations aren't as exicting as the dramatic theories you may be trying to suggest are they.........

Same old SN trend!! Nitpicking on someone's thread, why the hell can't some of you just take the story at face value and accept gregjd did have a lucky escape. Does it really matter that the bus driver had to ask what road he was on, that's irrelevant to the point of greg's post.

I don't travel on buses much but would agree these days once they are off their routes, they wouldn't know where they were going exactly. The guy looked majorly stressed too, having just been diverted. It was chaos up there, and that's partly what stopped me getting on. Cutting through towards Coram's Fields took me away from the crowds and other than sirens in the background, it was eerily quiet. Didn't even here the blast. London's funny like that though, especially near the Inns of Court etc where you can step out of manic traffic noise into a quiet secluded backwater.
Feeling a bit ashamed that I'm working from home today, but it's only because my meetings have all been cancelled.

Here here. It's as bad as Sky News on here......everyone WANTS to hear the dramatic rumours and over analyse the situation, as it's simply more "exciting" than the humdrum sad reality of death & destruction
This place has gone dramatically downhill recently due to exactly the above

Good friend and cameraman had just parked his car in Russell Square at 08 46 yesterday and walked around the corner, next thing he hears is a LOUD bang as the bus exploded. He had a lucky escape!
He rushed around the corner to be met by carnage, wont go into detail as it is not important but he was shocked to say the least. he did what he could until Police sealed off the area.
