Question Moving to the US ... ?

Quick question,

Has anyone got any experience with international removals? I need to arrange to ship some of my belongings from London to Chicago and want to get some quotes.

Any info would be useful!

Thanks

Jon

By "ship" do you mean ship or do you mean air-freight?

No idea - I just mean box up the belongings in London, and then some how they turn up on my US doorstep some time in the none too distant future!

It's not going to be a lot of items, and probably nothing very bulky, just general household items (no furniture).

Thanks

Jon

Air freight will get the goods there in hours, sea freight is more like weeks. Also if there is anything large, weight or volume then air is going to be costly. In general, people will tend to hire a half or full container and ship it depending on how much they have.

Try a google or yell.com for international shipping agents, or sea freight. I've been out of haulage for a few years now so no idea who is doing the best rates these days.

As Olly said, anything bulky or heavy will be expensive. We threw away some stuff because it was cheaper to buy a new one in Canada than ship it.

I'll look up the people who we used who were excellent - absolutely nothing was damaged until after it arrived in Canada.

depends on weight and volume weight, if it is fairly light send it airfreight, if it is say over 200kgs send it sea

if you are sending it seafreight try a company called Arends www.arends.co.uk/

Thanks - I'm also keen on someone that would specialise in moving household stuff, to avoid the risk of breakages etc. I don't mind paying a few extra quid for piece of mind!

The company we used were Interpack. Their website is a bit rubbish, but their service is excellent.
