Dog problem
Hi folks,
How can I stop my dog eating it's own faeces, he's only four months old but I was hoping he would've grown out of it by now.
I'm always with him to clean up but sometimes he has sneaky ones behind the bushes. Also when we're out in the park, if he finds another dogs mess he's been known to pick that up too.
The vet mentioned giving him pineapple, it actually worked to start with as they apparently don't like the smell. He must've got used to it now as it has no effect.
Anyone been in the same situation and can give me any advice?
Many thanks
SV

Short of catching it as it drops out of his backside you'll never stop him completely. It's a weird thing they do. Changing his diet regularly will put him off for a short while as they get used to the new faeces smell but, as you found with the pineapple, it's only a short term thing.
My advice? Clear up as often as possible and don't let him lick your face
PS.. It's quite amusing seeing them come up the garden with a particularly fine example hanging out of their mouth, looking like a canine Winston Churchill with a fat cigar

Tried the angry thing but he's just not bothered.
Maybe a blast with some water might make him change his mind.

Maybe try a muzzle - no Idea if this will work - It's what I'd try !

Charcoal Biscuits from a pet store or the Vet.
It is the lack of a vitamin or mineral that they need. The charcoal biscuits replenish the body stores and make the sh1te less tasty than what it is at the moment

We've got a 2 Scottie/Westie crosses that are now about 11 months old....finally they seem to have stopped or at least not to bothered any more.
We also have a 7 year old Cocker Spaniel who has never done it and has always been fed the same stuff as the pups have. So not sure if it was a vitamin problem. The little sods have even been know to hang around the back of the Spaniel to catch it before it hits the grass ...before I twiged what they were up to.
Spoke to vet about it, tried the pineapple trick....no joy. Sprayed water at them, have to admit to even lobbing the watering can in their direction a couple of times...still no joy! Even left some on the grass & poured Nandos Extra hot Chilli sauce on it. Weren't keen but they managed to lick the nasty stuff off to get to the best bit.....so what can you do!!
Fingers crossed they grow out of it as mine seem to have done. Look on bright side ...only another 7 months to go!!
