Question Just had a phone call from Sky Digital...

I'm with Telewest Cable and the moment and the deal they've just offered me has got me thinking.

At the moment i pay £45, for the basic tv package, 1MB braodband and telephone line rental. I roughly pay about £5-7 of calls on top, but not much more, per month.

They offered the same for £40, but letting them know it was a deal i'd jump at, they then came back to say they could do it for £36 for 6 months and throw in the Family package too!

Now at this point i wasn't so sure about my Cable package. I've had SO many troubles with their receiver boxes and broadband, that this seem's quite tempting, but what are others views on this? Is it worth the hassle of changing? I haven't got ALL the details, as they don't do things by the post now, as the bloke said all the leaflets go in the bin and this way it doesn't cost Sky as much.

Very unsure what to do.....i do use the PC a lot and the other half watches the tele a lot, besides i get Men and Motors and Motors TV if i get Sky!

Same again...... couldn't live without Sky+ the control its gives you is incredible. Hold out tho' for the best deal.... they are anxious to sign up new accounts,,, thats the cruncher. My son is with them(Sky), he phoned them recently to say that NTL were in his area offering new deals etc. (They weren't ) and Sky made him an offer he couldn't refuse to stay with them. I know, he's a norty, norty boy.

I expect Sky Broadband is over a BT line rather than the modem / satellite combo? In general I haven't noticed a big difference between NTL and BT/Plus.net as a broadband supplier. Both have been pretty reliable, with the BT / PLus.net probably just ahead.

As for TV - no comparison really, Sky kicks cable's a$$ all day every day, especially with Sky+. The only thing you have to watch out for is that you can site the dish where is gets a good clear view of the Sky. We ended up having to ditch Sky where we used to live as between April and Sept we couldn't get a signal due to trees in the line of sight. We have now moved and I can get Sky again, I wouldn't go back to cable out of choice.

It's a smidge more than that. Finally you can watch one channel and record another. You can record 2 programs at once and watch something you previously recorded. You have live pause and re-wind and you don't have to faf about with tapes and putting times in to a video, you just mark it on the TV guide and for many things you can set series repeat up.

The things missing IMO are:
Inbuilt DVD recorder to transfer stuff to
Network support / accessibility to the hard drive

But then I am a bit of a geek
