Anyone know about PLCs?
Him i was wondering if anybody knows the wiring and hardware required by PROFIBUS,MODBUS and RS485 communictions links.
also, field devices. are they sensors, motors, conveyers etc.

I'm sad enough to know a bit about PLC's....
Field devices - yep they are sensors, motors etc
Wiring and hardware - Profibus has it's own cable (it's a proprietary brand), RS 485 is serial comms.
Anything else you want to know?

cheers, modbus, whats that about. hardware and wiring etc.
Its for an assignment for mech eng. need to describe the above in the construction of the PLCs.

I think Modbus is another proprietary network but I haven't really dealt with that one.
Generally speaking the PLC has a comms card installed to communicate using any one of the methods you suggested but also Devicenet or Controlnet (Allen Bradley).
So in the PLC rack you end up with a CPU (can be more than 1), power supply, local I/O and your comms card.
Remote I/O modules are used to connect the network to the field devices.

Thanks a lot.
How crap is the web. Im trying to find all the comms standards for ge fanuc allen B, telemechanique omron and seimens but cant find a thing! arg. time to search RS.
