The smell of a Bacon Butty, ahhhh
Me and a colleague were on the way into work this morning, stuck on the M56 in traffic, just past the Post Host hotel, bit p1ssed off as we were a bit late and my mate had shortened his motor by a few inches the night before, anyway the M56 usually stinks of hot engines, tarmac and despair but we get this heavenly smell of Bacon Butties, bizzarre as there are no food places anywhere near, it subsides for a bit and then comes back stronger.
It does this a few times, seemingly in time with the straffic starting moving again, goes on for a couple of miles into Manchester, how does it follow you, I accused my mate of harbouring pork products about his person/vehicle, we speculated that maybe it was something under his bonnet catching and generating heat seeing as the bonnet had been rearranged, nope, as far as I am aware Peugeot 406's do not have any cured meat in their construction.
It carries on, the traffic was crap, into Moss Side, still with us and by this time we are ravenous, even distracted from all the displays of cleavage in full bloom going down Deansgate.
Anyway, a white Sherpa van cuts in on us, my mate blows his horn and the van driver hoofs it, this is accompanied by a huge plume of white steam/smoke, I expected this to smell of Diesel and burning engine oil as we entered the cloud but all we got was the smell of hot bacon with a hint of chips and Sherpa, mystery solved, matey in the van was avoiding duty payments by running his van on essence of Full English.
Got to the training School in Prestwich and ordered Bacon Butties from the canteen !
