Felt So Sorry For A Client Of Mine Today.
Just got back from a fitting. Lovely couple, retired, enjoying life and the love of a good family around them.
Until 3 weeks ago.
I thought they seemed quite subdued from there usual selves but we can't be jolly all of the time so didn't think much of it. Then the lady of the house came to me and apologises for them not speaking much but there Grandson is in a bad way and they are very down and upset.
Initially I thought it was the usual grandparent thing of being overly worried about what may be a minor thing.
Erm wrong.
Get this. 15 year old grandson complains of stomach pains so he's sent to hospital for some checks. They 'pour' some kind of dye into him that enables the doctors to detect 'leaks' or any other issues. Before they do this they first heat the liquid up to disinfect it. They then are supposed to let it cool down.
They didn't allow it enough time to cool down. It was still hot.
The poor boy (15 years) screamed the hospital down. They ended up having to resuscitate him 3 times. He's suffered massive internal bleeding/burns.
The surgeons are going to need to rebuild his bowls extensively. For reasons I don't know, there are concerns he may never be able to make love.
He is now conscious but they are still concerned he may not make it.
How awful is that? And she apologised to me for being quiet!
It was another of those "worries? what worries?" moments for me. I told her he'd be in my prayers, did my best to offer positive thoughts and reminded her, as someone once reminded me, that none of us are prophets, we don't know what the future holds so just think of the good times ahead, with her grandson and leave the sad thoughts alone.
What more could I say?
Lets just all be grateful for what we have.
Andy.

It's scary what can happen in hospitals these days. We all **** up, but when its lives your dealing in the consequences are huge.
Puts your own little problems into perspective does'nt it.

I honestly wanted to give the poor women a hug but it wouldn't have been appropriate and probably not wanted! me just doing a job for them.
I'm going to visit them in a few weeks though, see how he's going on.

That is disgusting! I appreciate that doctors etc are as likely to make mistakes as the rest of us - but ffs - heads should roll (and the poor sod should get a huge payout if he makes it) Thoughts are with him/his family!

Yeh.
Yeh.
Cannot begin to imagine the pain he must have gone through - worst thing is, I am going for a similar test next month - think I will ask them first!

I'm in agreement Tony, I can't imagine what it would be like to go through that, I'm just saying that payouts shouldn't be the answer. Small payouts that will cover future medical costs obviously, or why not just free medical care for life instead of giving them cash.
This sort of thing winds me up even more when people try and sue a school for bulling/banning/whatever.
Rant over!

Not too sure how Andy, the OP, is going to know the progress. Knocking on former clients' doors and asking after the welfare of their family members might seem a nice thing to do but a lot of people in this world would tell you to mind your own business.
Just thinking out loud like. Hope the lad's ok too but I fear we'll never know what happened.
Unless Andy's installation falls down and they call him back out of course!
