My wife is a Learning Support Assistant, who are on about £8000 a year and have to put up with this They deal with the worst kids and are the least paid in the school, its a disgrace!
Its bad enough being a Teacher on £35,000 - but at least they are handsomely rewarded and get lots of holidays to 'get over it'
The kids know you can't touch them ......... we need to get tough, these are the adults of the future!

I would not like to think of a 70+ year old having to deal with the "challenges" of the modern "learning environment".
Is this due to the pension provision under NL?
Or do you have a trophy wife?

You can't do it for yourself, they won't do it for you. You just have to swallow down the bile.
Pete, as you know, the money is crap; I came into it hoping to make a difference and the term-time only arrangement of my first post suited my Band commitments (which were enough to double my income at the time) and home improvement plans. I'm marginally better paid as Senior Tech, but all my other reasons for doing it have evaporated.

Indeed, Markus. I have an application pack on my coffee table for a similar post at a decent sixth-form college. If I get it, and the place suits me, I'm going to look into the teaching side. My field is Geology/Palaeontology really, and they run that type of course there.
Secondary schools are a complete dead-end. For everyone concerned. A number of the Keystage 4 kids at my school (not classified as special needs) can't read as well as my six-year old. Shocking.

Good luck with the application (and I'm not being rude or sarcastic for a change ).
Just do something evil to the little buggers before you leave though, sounds like they deserve it.
Sounds like the keystage 4's should be special needs, as in, they especially need a sound kicking and attitude adjustment!
Bring back the cane!

OK, I should have said:
indirectly do something evil...
Glue on the keyboards for example. One of the little darlings would no doubt be blamed for it anyway.

Cheers.
In actual fact, violence doesn't suit me as a person. Frustration and anxiety about my situation brings about violent thoughts sometimes, but I recognise them for what they are and that's why I will never hit a child, whatever the provocation. I'd much rather have the good vibe of being appreciated for the difference I can make to someone's future. When it works you feel elated. 90% of the time at my place, however, you're thought of as an old ****** and sometimes even spat on.

I wouldn't tolerate a job dealing with children or the general public but if I did I would use psychological techniques to screw the little b*stards up.

Strange how PSL will change his views to suit his thread of the moment.
In an earlier thread he was berating the teacers' salaries coupled with their long holidays, and ignoring the dreadful treatment they get from evill little ******* who can no longer be disciplined effectively.
All NL policies of course!
Les?

I thought pete earned loads and had thousands to bet on NL winning the election. On top of that he's at pensionable age and I assume his wife is too. If so, why is he letting his wife work for a paltry £8k a year? He wouldn't get out bed for £8k but makes his wife do so
