Question Culinary advice required!

I'm cooking for 3 women on Friday eve. By the time i get home, I'll only have a max of 3 hours to prepare and cook the food.

Any menu suggestions gratefully received.

Having just read that back, I can see the sort of replies I'll get. So, i'll say right now, 1 is my wife, 1 is my sister in law, the other is her partner.

Having just read that back I can see the sort of replies that will generate!
I give up!

C'mon, what would you cook? I don't mind dabbling but I'm not Jamie Oliver!

Cheers.

keep it simple. a good spag bol and green salad would do fine:

Bolognese sauce:

chop a couple of medium onions, 2 cloves of garlic and a handful of celery, fry in olive oil for a few minutes.
Add 0.5kg good quality minced beef, a few rashers of bacon (chopped) or else some cubed pancetta, add a couple of teaspoons of brown sugar, fry off for another five minutes or so.
chuck in a glass or so of white wine
add a tin of chopped tomatoes and a good measure of tomato puree
season to taste
cook on gentle heat for 35 minutes or so.
add fresh chopped basil about 10 minutes before it's ready to serve.

serve on penne or the shell shaped ones (less messy than spaghetti) with plenty of freshly grated parmesan.

Fresh pasta/spaggetti is better than the other stuff.

A bit traditional but you cant go wrong with beef stew.
Chop beef or lamb into cubes, put in a slow cooker with onions, carrots and peppers and gravy.Turn on in the morning, ready for when you get home, then do mash potatoe /dumplings.

Propercharlies recipe is good, but its important to get the mix right. You may be better getting a jar of Dolmio instead of making the sauce yourself.

Cut 3 chicken breasts into strips, fry in wok for about 8 mins along with a couple of cloves of garlic, sliced mushrooms and onions(both in amounts according to taste)..Keep cooking slowly then add add couple of dashes of worcester sauce, browns it all off a treat..Serve on a bed of cold mixed lettuce with honey and mustard dressing, and hot stir fried noodles...They amoy "straight to wok" ones work well if speed is needed..
Takes about 40 mins all in..Oh Angel Delight and/or fruit salad for desert...

GOOD SCRAN !!!!!!

Not the most challenging thing you may take on...but it tastes good and its hard to get wrong!!!

PMSL, great post.

A variation on fatscoobyfella's culinary delight.

Cut up about 8 rashers of smoked streaky bacon and fry until crispy, then remove into a seperate bowl.

Cut three chicken breasts into strips, fry these on a high heat for about three minutes then add three "Italian" oxo cubes ( you don't have to go to Italy for these ), fry for another two minutes.

Have the plates ready with a mixed salad on them, sprinkle the crispy bacon on top and then the chicken.

Lastly, you will have made a Balsamic dressing of your own;
3 Parts olive oil to 1 part Balsamic vinegar, some sugar, salt, dijon mustard and a little basil. Shake it up in a jar, taste if it's ok, and then bung it in the hot pan for 10-20 seconds, pour the hot dressing over the meals, Bob's your uncle and fanny's a rude word.

Serve with warm ciabatta bread and a plain yoghurt dip.

Obviously the above is for three of you, as there are actually four of you, add another breast and a bit more bacon.

Add a bit more breast! I like it, with 3 women, that shouldn't be a problem!

Surely it'll just go "cool down man, cool down man" when you serve it up though?

More useful than a saucepan in 3 against 1 situations.

Great main course suggestions, but dont most women really think that the desert/puddding is the best part of any meal??

Dont mean to offend anybody if they female, but a good pudding has always won me brownie points.

If so, go for a creme brulee, or bread and butter pudding, as angel delight, although nice and retro, aint exactly going to impress them much is it?

Beg or borrow recipe from Gary Rhodes book, one of the easiest.

another vote for the chicken and bacon salad. pretty straightforward and looks the business if you select a good salad.

i normally chop up some avo and do a few seasoned potato wedges (just salt and pepper) but the wedges may be more of a daytime thing.

personally i'd chose something light and lemony for dessert and if you're having a bottle or two of white then try a drop of nz giesen sauv blanc from tesco. i think it's on sale at the moment and the wife loves it.
