Angry Are they all blind around here.

Lately every time I overtake someone pottering on at 50 in a 60 they turn their headlight on full beam until I am way down the road, are they a bit blind and trying to read the make of car that has had the nerve to pass them or do they think its an artic passing them and just letting me know that I am clear and can pull back in?

If I sat behind them flashing my lights in a rage because they were only doing 50 they would be pretty pissed off,so why not let me just pass and leave it atthat.

Rant off.

Agreed, slow down. It really pi$$es them off I usually add the rear fogs too, just to make MY point. There are too many on the roads who have taken in all the "speed kills" BS and see anything other than pootling along well below any posted limit as the actions of a rampant criminal madman and feel they have the right to try and re-educate those of us who can actually control our vehicles and still have an ounce of adrenalin running through our veins. Take every opportunity to send the message back to them, miserable whinging old before their time sour petty grumpy braindead dullards

They are driving as fast as they dare and dont see why you should be able to drive any faster in safety.

Best to just ignore all the headlamps etc.

If they flash, brake quickly in front of them, turning 90 degrees to block both lanes, get out and punch their windows several times with your fist while exlaiming - "is it ****ing illegal to overtake now ? If you are neither competent enough or willing enough to reach the advised speed limit, go on a driving course". Then "if you flash your lights once more, you'll be able to bend over on brighton pier as the new lighthouse"

After a week of doing this to all people on your route, you should have some satisfaction.

I used to get this all the time when I had the scoob, in fact thinking about it, I still do!
What p!sses me right off are the tw@ts that do 40 - 50 in the 60 sections, (the same tw@ts that flash and wave at you if you over take them safely) and then when they come to a built up area with a 30 limit, the buggers carry on at 40-50
They just don't see that what they are doing is far far worse than me passing them ( ) at 70 on the wide open 60 roads

Bunch of to$$ers need a hot exhaust pipe up their @rses

In my experience its on the nicer 'A' roads. And its always on the safe to over-take sections where you get a numptie that wants to drive at his own speed and gets annoyed that you don't want to do the same and comit the hynus (sp) crime of overtaking him

Still think they're to$$ers

Ok Headlighting is silly and un necessary, but isn't 60MPH the limit on such roads?

Ahhhhh forgive me.... 50 in a 60 ....missed that the first read through.
They do that round here..and not much chance to pass either, fecking annoying it is. WHY oh WHY do they do it ?
Am shortly upgrading to a bigger engine but that still won't solve the prob on some of the local roads..... specially the ones with a ditch at either side.

I was stuck behind a numptie doing 40 in a 60. Wasn't safe to overtake - must have been 20-30 cars behind by the time I got to a safe place to overtake.

The thing that really irritates me the most...reach a 30mph section as you pass through a village, and they still stick to 40mph - blatent bad driving

As for the headlight flashers - I had a great one last week on a roundabout inbetween a dual carriageway, I was pottering about in the left hand lane on the roundabout going straight on (2 lanes) Old bloke in a Corolla approches the 1st entrance/exit, and pulled out turning left (same exit as me)without even looking to his right (so didn't see me there).

I swerve into the right hand side of the roundabout as I exit (luckily, nobody there), the drop into 2nd and take my anger out on by gunning it past him as I come off the island.

This bloke then goes absolute mental with flashing the headlamps - I didn't even reach 70mph limit either. Although after the flashing I felt inclined to gun it in 3rd too and bugger off out of his way

I suppose the shock that there was another car on the road beside him was too much to take

If Dorset had a motorway we could get all the 50 mph twots in a line in the fast lane so all the A roads would be clear.

Dual carriageways, thats the bit of road that has two lanes that as soon as you reach 70 mph you are back to single lane and 50mph behind twoty again.

We need some better roads down here if they are going to keep shipping the retired people down.

If the headlights go on then obviously the conditions are so bad that they are unable to see your car 20 metres ahead.

the highway code advises that in low visibility situations like that, you should use your rear fog lights. That ought to sort it

It's a favourite trick of the blue rinse brigade round here and is often accompanied by the waving of a fist and "young hooligan!".

I think it is shock at:

a) the fact that someone can drive safely faster than they can
b) the fact that you have taken them by surprise since you weren't there last time they looked in their mirror some 30 miles back!

I managed to totally infuriate another driver the other day for overtaking him and the car he was following in one go. The road was clear and I was approaching the pair at speed, I flashed my lights a couple of times incase the following car hadn't seen me approaching and went past them both. A few miles down the road; again behind some slower traffic, the guy who had been following in the pair I overtook caught me up. He was right on my bumper flashing his lights, waving his hands, mouthing abuse.

These are probably the same individuals that support the tax cameras, their driving education went no further than mirror, signal, manovoure; and they have forgotten two thirds of that!

I am of the opinion (and it isnt a humble one!) that drivers who do not want to drive well don't really care about driving, thus they don't care about cars, thus there car is likely to just a car and not cared for. They probably haven't checked the tyre pressures or wear in months, the tracking is out, the shocks are knackered and the brake pads are low or the calipers shot. These people are the danger on our roads I'm, in fact, suprised there lights work at all!

I have to say I hate the 45mph everywhere brigade and witness a lot on my backroad exploits to Southport a few times a week... Very frustrating... I never get flashed though?
If a car came up behind me flashing his lights to "make me aware its there" like Rioja mentions - I for one would definately misconstrude (in this case) that as an agressive 'move out of my way' gesture and definately come after you to discuss matters...
I got arrested for flashing once - well drunken streaking - the policeman told me it must have been a very cold night - I never did get the cctv footage from the police station in order it be destroyed .

There's definetly a lot more intolerance these days of perfectly safe and legal overtaking - it's as if these people take it as a personal insult to their sexual prowess or something. Haven't they heard of Viagra?
