Is this a wind-up? - Wiltshire Police Web Appeal
I don't know if this is a clever wind up, or SIAL (I am sure it must be a wind-up) but Wiltshire Police are pulling out all the stops in the hunt for a prolific local thief: http://www.wiltshire.police.uk/appea...iew.asp?id=467
I know Wiltshire is quiet but a good use of police resources?

In a word, no.
It's hardly in the public interest to pursue these master criminals!

Wiltshire (or Swindon at least) police are a joke.
My brother had his car broken into the other day at his house, (windows smashed and sat-nav stolen). Took 5 hours of ringing again and again to finally get in touch with the local police station incident desk, only to be told that they weren't interested. Mainly because it had happened several hours earlier and any evidence would have gone by now
Similar thing happened to my sister-in-law in Swindon ceter a year ago when they had a car window smashed. She was standed in a carpark, in the rain, waiting for a pc to turn up for 3 hours before they finally showed.
Seems they are only interested in manning cameras these days...

Damn camera vans, this wouldnt have happened if police wernt wasted in mundane useless jobs like that.
Ideally they would be doin something useful and responding quickly - if they wernt stuffing donuts in their faces

I think it's quite a good idea. I'm not sure why some people think it's ok to steal stuff, it's taking the pi$$ really.
At least putting their picture on a website is cheaper than going through the CPS and courts process. Hopefully their friends/colleagues/kids will see the pictures and start ridiculing them for being pikey enough to nick a tub of popcorn.

If caught they will either get a PND ticket for theft or go to court which means the whole CPS thing.
It wouldn't get that far anyway and be chucked out due to the value of the item taken, which would be a waste of police time and taxpayers' money.
It's still theft, I guess..................

If it is reported as a theft, it has to be investigated. In this case, there is CCTV so the suspects may be identifiable. For the crime to be investigated fully, all avenues must be explored. Theft is theft.
Ian - In your case, although annoying, if there is no realistic chance of catching the offenders (no CCTV, forensics etc), then often details are taken over the phone. This frees up time for the response policing.
