Selling car - taking personal plate off
Hello
We are selling my wifes car and it has a personal plate on it.
Does anyone know the process to transfer the registration to a retention certificate and put a normal one on the car ?

can't help with the transfer info but just make sure you sort it asap.
the guy i bought my car off had a personal plate and it took 4 weeks to process. it wasn't a problem for me to wait but it might put some buyers off and lose you a sale.

Wasnt sure if you needed to reregister the car after putting the plate on retention, but apparently DVLA say its reregistered automatically.

Get the form....Fill it in
Get a cheque book. Get your old tax disc, Insurance and V5.
Go to DVLA office, take a ticket, wait for 90 mins until your number is called.
Find you filled it wong or left your tax disc in teh car
Repeat all the above
Fill in cheque to the tune of 3 weeks grocery shopping.
Get new tax disc and reciept
Get told your new v5 and Retention Certificate shoudl aarive in 2 weeks
Wait 4 weeks
In the meantime go to your local numberplate makers and get the new plate made up for £25
Retention certificate arrive with your name spelt wrong
V5 finally arrives...so now you can actually sell the bloody car
Easy!!!
BTW You can do it all by post too...its probably quicker as well
