It was obvious from the thread title.... why click on it just to moan? I hate people that watch tv programs with swearing in etc (after being warned) only to write in and complain!!! Much the same!

And that aside, the process of "election" of the new pope is like Pop idol. They vote to keep them in thru different stages till they wittle it down to a winner.

It's only a bit of humour, nobody is being nasty. It's a lot better than a thread in general slagging off an impreza driver that crashed and died.

Brendan, thats a good point, listen to what the old fella preached, bit of a bigot really. 84 years, not a bad innings really was it, the Pope Idol thing is just a bit of harmless fun, not being at all mean, they do it for wannabe pop stars so why not apply the concept further

I'm sorry to those who are very upset and take it seriously. I understand he was a great guy and did a lot against communism, and also did a lot of apologising to heal sometimes centuries-old rifts.
I don't have strong views on women priests or homosexuality. But to me he will always be the head of the organisation that told the Africans that condoms are no good against Aids as the virus can swim through the holes. I think this has probably condemned a million people to a slow and agonising death. And all because of some parable in a semi-fictional book about spilling your seed on fallow ground.

Nothing to do with my personal beliefs, or whether I have a sense of humour.
I just feel that its is beyond the pale to make such jokes with respect to a great leader when the bloke has not even been buried yet!
Its all to do with "common decency" if you understand what that is.
I think the real criticism is about your sense of humour if you have to rely on that to attempt to get a laugh.

Worries me when they claim there are 1bn RCs in the world - that's a frightening proportion of the 6.5bn population for just one of the irrational sects. Blimey, how scary is it when so many people believe in such hocus.
