Default XDAIIi any good?

Hi folks,

Been looking to get a mobile phone (see other thread), but last night my ipaq 3950 pda died on me. So, I was wondering whether to get one of those pda mobile phones instead of the d500 / s700i. Specifically, I was thinking about the O2 XDAIIi

Has anyone tried them and got any opinions as to what they're like? Scanned around the web and some reviews like it, and some hate it.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good pda (pocket pc, not palm) with a decent chunk of memory / speed / features / bluetooth / wifi etc. Not sure I want another ipaq (had too much trouble with the last one).

Thanks,
Iain

On the surface it looks good, but it's only got 64mb of memory, no wifi, and I've seen several reviews saying the bluetooth is dodgy. If that's the best that's out there, I may end up having to get seperate devices...

the wifi thing is a popular critisism.....but as i have no idea what it even does i dont mind!

the memory is no problem, i have a 1gig card in it and its fine. i have my entire contact directory fo work on...close to 1000 names now (and addresses and notes etc) as well as a load of MP3's and xl sheets etc.

bluetooth......i have mine hooked up to a headset, a carkit and the pc via bluetooth...never had a problem yet.

got to say its one of the best things i bought last year.

walkman, phone, PDA, etc, ect in one and using pocket PC is so simple (as you know if you have an IPAQ)

(had an ipaq - it's now almost completely dead )

Wifi basically means it will talk to my wireless router at home or in the office, and give me internet access on the pda. Didn't have this on the ipaq and really wish I did...

ahhh...you can get a wifi card for it.

i only use the "connectivity" stuff for getting emails, MSN and the odd bit of surfing so the GPRS is fine.

Yes you can get a wifi card for it, but it uses the same slot as the memory card, so you can't use both at once. Not a lot of use for me really...

I thought about getting an XDA as well. IMO, if you're regularly making and receiving calls it just isn't practical with the lack of a proper keypad and the size/shape isn't exactly suited to use as a phone.

Guys

I have the XDA 2s (same as the imate) and it is superb, pull down keyboard is a real gem, it is smallish considering the features it has and i am well chuffed with it. I have got rid of my mobile phone and ipaq and gone with one of these.

I'm confused here. THe XDA IIi does have WiFi doesn't it? It is just missing the keyboard but has a 1.3MP camera, 500mhz CPU and 128MB RAM.

These guys have good pricing on all the XDA Models
http://shop.uplands.co.uk/acatalog/O2_XDA_2.html

If you use the search you will also find the xda IIi. Only £129 on 250min contact is a steal. I think O2 want £250??

I have had an XDA II for about 17 months. Only prob I had was the speaker packed up @ 13mths but warranty was 2 years so had it fixed under warranty. I love the little beast but agree if you are a heavy phone user you may not like it. If you're like me - use the phone every now and then, open up the odd spreadsheet, collect a bit of email, browse the web occassionally, listen to MP3s quite a lot - and use bluetooth TomTom Navigator and checkpoint speed camera detector (rocks!) then the XDA II (any model) is brilliant....

I plan to sell my XDA II soon and buy the IIs or IIi (not sure which one yet).
Long live the XDA
