Blood tests
Getting bloodtests taken this morning.....
Midwife didn't tell me whether it was best to go after having eaten something or on an empty stomach?!?!
I was hoping one of you lovely people would know

Depends on the test. If you were donating blood, you'd want to eat and drink something.
When I had some blood tests, the doc said don't eat anything before hand. That was just some sports related stuff.
not much help me

Hmmmmm.
Its my first trimester so it's testing for:
Blood group
Rhesus status
Blood count
Sickle cell anaemia
Thalassaemia
Random Blood sugar
Rubella or German measles
Syphilis
Hepatitis B
HIV
I don't suspect they will need a lot. The thing is I can't hold an awful lot of food down, morning sickness is all day everyday. I get faint when they try to take blood (like getting blood from a stone ) and fear yakking all over the midwife

most of those tests won't be affected by whether you eat or not, the blood sugar being the only one that would. Follow your normal routine - they'll only flag the blood sugar if its way out of normal limits.

Yep, part of mine was blood sugar so that figures why the doc told me not to eat breakfast.
You'd be best having some food and a drink to stop you feeling too light headed.

You should have been told at the surgery whether you can eat or not. If you should not then it may well mess up the blood/sugar test. Worth ringing them to find out to avoid wasting everyone's time.

I am fiiiiiiiiine!! I was in there long enough (waited 40 minutes to be seen ffs amongst other things, there will be a new thread about that!), it took her quite a few attempts though I look like a junkie, I wouldn't be out of place in Trainspotting!! My blood pressure is 60/100 (i hope i have that the right way round) and she told me that is why I get faint.
Peice of **** this pregnancy lark

i had my blood tests last week for all those things i think its about 4 tubes ask your midwife if you can lie down i found it helped to drink water afterwards and have a biscuit but if you have morning sickness try a cracker. i felt a bit faint aswell afterwards but its nothing to worry about it only takes 5 mins.
