Neighbour blocked us in!
About to leave for work tonight @ 21:10, when the wife informs me that it may be difficult to get out due to a neighbour parking his van right across the road, blocking entry and exit to our estate!
Get the car out anyway, and drive down to the exit to find that not only has he blocked the entire road, but also decided to go out for the night too
He has 4 vehicles, 1 transit van, an old escort xr3 convertable, a green peugot car and the large white van he uses for market trading, which was blocking the road.
After banging on his front door for a while, and getting no response, I called the police.
"someone will be with you shortly sir" was the response.
30 mins later, called again.
"someone will be with you shortly sir" was the response again.
30 mins later, called again.
I said, if I hadn't known about this vehicle blocking the road, and had to call out the fire brigade to my house, how would you respond then?
"Dont set fire to your house on purpose sir, we'll be with you soon" was the reply.
Anyway, I'd left it late enough, and called a taxi to get me to work. Just as he's driving me away, the police car comes up, so I get the taxi to turn round and take me back.
When I spoke to the officer, a traffic cop by the look of his car, he was very curt.
I asked "what are you going to do about it?" in a calm and inquisitive way.
he said "with all due respect, my job sir" rather bluntly.
would it of hurt the policeman to briefly explain procedure in these cases?
Anyway, the wife came out to see what the policeman was doing too, and as I left she was talking to him. Turns out he was just as abrupt to her as well.
The upshot of it all is: Neighbour was still out when I left, policeman filling out a fixed penalty notice as I left, and the wife being told it will be towed away within the hour.
So, he's getting a fixed penalty, £60?, the cost of the tow truck and impound charges for how everlong it takes him to collect, + of course my taxi fare.
What is it with people? How can you just dump your vehicle in the middle of an estate, and not think it will massively inconvinence people?
Ah well, it takes all sorts I suppose.

just home now, and message from the wife is that he was actually in! when they started towing the van, he came out because of the alarm, and had a heated argument with the police.
they still towed the van
dropped off a bill for my taxi fare as I was passing, whats the odds he'll pay it?

Always use your own force rather than the police
We once had a car taking up 2 parking spaces outside our old house, so I just gently moved it along using the bumper of my crappy old Rover 216 I had at the time - moved surprisingly easily and left no marks

LOL @ Dream Weaver
My stepfather did a similar thing once. The parking were we live is awful. There was one car taking up two spaces, which happened to be the only ones left. My step father took the key to my Mums Reanault 5 popped open the door (it was not even the same make car, took about 5 seconds?!?!) took off the hand brake, pushed the car back, hand break back on, closed and locked the door with the same keys!! Problem solved!!

I don't suppose I made it very clear, but both his white van and the escort were unlocked, but there was nowhere to roll them to. The van was parked with the wheels locked in a position that would have made it worse had we rolled it, and the escort had nowhere to go but blocking someone else in if we did move it.

It was meant as a joke because of what the police advised you not to do.
PS- Don't go setting fire to your scoob now will you.
