Too much snow, so they call in the army!
"The army was called in to help emergency services as the worsening conditions brought parts of Kent and Sussex to a standstill."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4312903.stm
But it's these bits that make me smile -
"More than 300 schools across Kent and Sussex were closed on Wednesday"
and then
"The emergency services are clearly doing what they are paid to do, but they are always very short of four-wheel-drive capability, particularly when conditions get as bad as they are today"
Hey, can't they just use all the 4x4s that normally do the school run?

I worked right on the West Kent / East Sussex border today where all these problems were.
It was fookin cold. It's the first time I have ever seen a double decker bus sliding sideways down the road. Bloody scary as it was taking all the school kids back home again

It made me laugh too, we've had heavy snow up here in North Yorks on and off for a couple of weeks, there was a lot more snow across the North Yorks Moors a week ago than they have in Kent at the moment and the snow on the tops behind our house was up to our calves when we were up there on Sunday.
A few flurries down south and the London based media goes into a frenzy

Typical teachers taking advantage of the obsession this country now has for "health and Safety" and risk aversion in order to get a week off work. Bet they 'd have no problems getting to the numerous staff training days that disrupt every term so much!
What is it with public sector employees? They all seem go off sick at the drop off a hat and use any excuse not to work, then moan about pay and conditions, they couldn't cut it in the real world. Feckless, the lot of them.

Has no bearing on the laziness of the public sector anyway.

I think a lot of the problem is caused by the media etc telling evryone how dangerous it all is and to to go out even. That means that people dont learn how to cope with it.
In earlier years we used to get much more snow every winter, we just used to get on with it and managed quite easily.
