Just for once.....
I would like to walk down the high street without getting stopped every 5 yards by some gimp with a clipboard
In order of the ones i just encountered on one (short) high street:
save the children
Amnesty international
greenpeace
British heart foundation
Against animal testing
there were a few others but didnt see what they were as they didnt approach me (for once)
Am i really going to stop in the pissing rain?
I have no problem with giving to charity, and i do so-but what bugs me is this method, and the constant bombardment in the street.
Every single day it happens.
Gone are the days of simply rattling a collection tin...now its the pressurised hard sell tactics.
/rant over
Normal service resumes.....

you could tell them to **** off, but it will be a diffrent person with the clip board next time round who wont recognise you.
the only thing you can do IMO is blatently ignore them!

To paraphrase Bill Bryson, say "I'm sorry, I don't have any money, I just got out of prison." And when they look at you with the "what were you in there for?" look, you explain "I murdered a guy with a clipboard."

I see these people near oxford circus. You learn to avoid them, avoid eye contact etc. IF I do say anything it's "sorry, no time". Some say "But it'll only take a few minutes" What part of NO time did they not understand!
Personally I think these companies/charidees should have a little stall with the name/charity, questionnaires/donations wanted etc. (bit like what the rac/aa used to do) I'd be less put on the spot and more likely to go over if it interested me.

I walk in and out of Oxford Circus daily, they also hang around Berwick Street whic his where I work so I get it every evening and twice at lunchtimes. I just say "sorry" and keep walking since I don't like to actually ignore people.
