Local Radio DJs
As you know I spend many hours driving up and down the highways of this fine country and much of this time is spent listening to local radio. Any suggestions for who I should be tuning into locally?
In the Midlands it would take a lot to persuade me away from Ed James on Heart who has nearly casued me to have an incident on several occasions! ('What's written on your pants' being one of those times!).
Not into wiredy modern scary stuff - more the Heart/ Capital/ Century sort of thing, but with a decent DJ to amuse me. (Glad to hear Jono Coleman is off from Heart in the south, but Jamie Theakston....?????)
Suggestions??

Listen to your CD its a whole lot better than listening to some fool full of his own self importance who thinks he is hilariously funny, stereotypical? Well Ive yet to listen to one who isnt none of the above.

"Andy & Louise in the Morning" on Signal 1 (Staffs / Cheshire).
Avoid - Louise needs an axe in her head, pronto.
Money spent on a CD changer that can read MP3 discs is money well spent IMO.

Don't go anywhere near Real Radio in West Yorkshire. There's a pr!ck on there called Umberto, sounds like the gay b@st@rd lovechild of Lilly Savage and Vera Duckworth He does play some OK tunes, but his incessent inane waffling makes me want to rip the head unit from the car and do a doughnut on it. As said earlier, you can't fault Radio 2 during the day. Does get a bit old school some evenings, but any station featuring Bob Harris : has to be the best

Local radio is ****e ffs. I couldnt stop my girlfriend listening to 'Hallam FM' whilst we were driving in her car so Ive pulled the b*stard aerial out out of the back of her radio.....
Edited to add: She still thinks that her radio has broken, she cant understand why the RDS tuner just keeps hunting up and down (quietly) seeking 'Hallam FM'.....

Other than that all local radio is crap up north. Was much better down south where I come from, despite the ads being a pain in the ***!!

Can get pea fritters down south which you haven't heard of up north and there's more curry sauce available in chippies, besides anyone can whip up some bisto at home
Also, it's warmer, drier, less chavistic (that a word?) and there seems to be way less crime! Most importantly however, not so many old people bore your **** off in supermarket queues..

You forgot to mention that there are less fat people. Although according to the local news last night most of the fat f*ckers seem to live in Barnsley.....

Ensure your car stereo has an input of sorts
Buy a 20GB Ipod
Go round all your mates who have Ipods (or their kids etc), get them to fill up the 20GB with the kind of music you like. My son's mate has rock, techno, chillout, jazz (and I mean real jazz, Sinatra and Fitzgerald), Mozart and 1.5 hours of Robin Williams live standup. (Swiping theirs means you don't have to spend ages recording it yourself - and it means you get more variety)
Plug it in on shuffle.
When you want discussion, go for Radio 4. If they've some crap drama on, or a news report you heard the last hour, go back to the Ipod.
Keep RDS on for the traffic reports.
Gradually prune the crap you don't like off the Ipod.
Take you a loooooong time to get bored of that. And not so much retuning, inane adverts, inane banter etc.

If I'm in my car, and I want to listen to music, I play a CD. If i want a voice to listen to, I choose Radio 5. Really good station, plus you can have an argument all on your own. I'm often to be seen shouting at the radio calling various people all sorts of unsavory names, its a good stress reliever.
