Description/Theory: The Intelligent Chip corrects an obscure but important problem inherent in all commercial discs; this problem is one reason commercial discs frequently "don't sound quite right," sounding anemic, overly bright or tinny. The disc upgrade is permanent and the upgraded disc will sound better even when played on other machines.

Instructions: Remove the orange Intelligent Chip from its clear plastic protective case and place it on top of the CD/DVD/SACD player directly above the transport section, silver label facing up. Next, insert the disc to be upgraded in the player and push "Play" and allow the disc to play for 2 seconds. The Chip can also be placed on top of the player while the disc is playing with similar results. The upgrade takes less than 2 seconds and is permanent

Lump of wood??!! That lump of wood is covered with C37 Lacquer to give the best possible sonic performance.
You people are all Philistines, honestly, I don't know why I bother.
In saying that I saw something very similar in B&Q the other day for about a quid. I wonder if it would work just as well?

Well, at least the lump of wood could, in theory, actually do something. Acoustic vibrations could indeed couple into the volume **** (along with the rest of the amplifier) and gently shake it, and it's not impossible to believe that could affect the sound. Especially picky photographers use wooden tripods for much the same reason - the wood absorbs vibrations, rather than transmitting them or resonating.
As for the 'chip' though - what on earth have they been smoking?!
