Question 7 Day Shop and Tax

Just looking at the 7 day shop and note that it says the Post Office may collect Tax for the item from you upon delivery

Does this happen at all?? What would the tax be on a £400 Lens? is it 17.5%? Making it £470!

Also, anyone any idea about their warranties - would Canon repair an item bought in the Channel Islands?

Pete

ps. Just seen that the price INCLUDES UK VAT ..... so, what are they on about??

All Canon lenses have international warranties (unlike the cameras themselves), so no worries on that front.

All goods from the Channel Islands are liable to duty and VAT, perhaps they are offering to pay it

I was hit for tax once with them for a battery charger that I got for my S304.
Was a while back tho before they showed the "inc. UK VAT"

Import Duty and VAT are seperate Pete. The rates applied depend on a number of things; you can go to the library and consult HM C&E 'Tarrif' but its a nightmare. If you look in your local Yellow Pages youll find a VAT helpline number; theyll be able to advise what, if any, rates apply. For me its quite simple; cars from Japan: 10% Duty with VAT @ 17.5% on the sum, but not everything carries the same rates and different countries hold different status with us too.

7 Day Shop have the WORST reputation for online trading and my advice is avoid like the plauge!! Any internet based company that you CAN'T get a phone number for is far too dodgy...

Now I have heard about plenty of happy customers.... but there are just as many hacked off ones!! For the sake of a few quid I'd buy elsewhere

The post office also charge for collecting the duty when you go to post office to collect.

Some couriers charge a shocking 'administration fee' if your goods get assessed; its a right lark.

People will talk!!

Some web shopping sites offer to payback your tax if you get hit - check their terms.

Hmmmmmm, comes from Hong Kong .... what about tax there then? What happens if it doesn't arrive? nah, Hong kong is too risky for me.

Anyone else experience a less than perfect service from 7 day shop?? I thought they were one of the good guys?

Pete,

Goods from the Channel Islands such as lenses will only invoke a VAT charge when importing into the UK, not duty.

Typically, duty applies to ****, booze and cars.
