Lightbulb Home CCTV Security Setup

Though I have a garage and a baseball bat next to the kitchen door, I thought id invest in a CCTV System..

Items Required:
  • Night Visions Camera (waterproof etc)
  • DVR Card for the PC
  • A cable - for connectivity (CAT5)
  • PC
Now the camera I am looking at in a Night Vision Camera, usually retails for near £150, and is spouse to be a very good Camera. Hopefully aiming to get this in for near £70 being brough in from Hong Kong. The camera is motion sensitive, so can be made to only record on the PC if any motion is detected. It can also be set to email or page i believe to...

DVR car for the PC, will cost near £40 for a decent one.

Cable will extend from the Camera to to the DVR card in the PC.

PC, does not need to be of a higher Spec, as it will only record is motion is detected, hence HDD space will not be heavily consumed.

The good bit:
If you have a broadband connection at home with a Static IP address, you can remote control the PC at home from work for example and view what the Camera is seeing...How cool is that....

Don't record using a Capture Card, what happens WHEN Windows crashes.

I have sold some of these complete kits on ebay before. If you want one PM me and I will contact you with more info.

A proper 4 channel DVR and 4 Colour / Mono cameras with IR lamps built in and a monitor for £699 quid.... Bargain

IT Consultants normally know how to keep their PC's in top condition, most of use laymen, have more viruses then a two dollar *****..

Also if you have motion detection built into a CCTV system they are prone to false alarms due to changing weather conditions as they are based on change in contrast rather than movement, hence they are better designed for indoor systems. If the cameras have built in PIRs they are better but still get some false activations hence filling HD's with hours of cats walking across your drive.

i use a DVR system with excellent results. I use a 8 port 200fps card which gives full screen full 25 fps on each camera port. With 300gig of hdds i get about 20 days worth of footage across 6 camera (2 colour, 4 mono). Don't bother with IR cameras, either use a 500w security light on a PIR or use a decent IR lamp. A security light is far better as it a very visible sign of security esp when someone sets it off. All this is controlable via the web but with a limited 256k upload on bt ipstream dsl once u start playing with more than one camera the speeds slows right down.

I sell the inetcam system of which there are around 5 scooby drivers that have purchased it from me over the past years.
If you want more info email me at dave@mcc-limited.co.uk.
Its not to expensive yet not cheap and works very well.

dvr card with the software (which allows you to remote access also) £30.

The video card in the machine is a Nvidia GeForce 3, the actual DVR card was direct from the maker in hong kong.

One word of note, when buying a DVR card make sure it's support a decent amount of FPS. 4 port cards that support 25fps means if u have a single camera it's full speed but add another canera and u then halve the fps available to each camera (12 fps each) and so on. So if u fully populate a 4 port 25fps card the resulting fps per camera is very poor, but for £3.99 for the card and £10.99 P&P from ebay they are cheap.
