Listening to "old" music and not fully with the times?
LOL at myself..............
I remember when I was a kid wondering why my parents didnt listen to "up to date" music and thinking them not very cool for it...............
Now here I am listening to Gatecrasher Red circa 1996 and nearly 10 years out of date (back in the day when it wasnt exactly commercial)............and yep Im exactly the same as my parents
I do listen to up to date stuff but now I "understand" what was going on!

Is there anything in the charts worth listening to these days?
I'm listening to some old school ambient at the moment, The Shamen believe or not, really trippy limited edition of Axis Mutatis, the second CD of the package called "Arbor Bona Arbor Mala"

ADP - Spooky, I was listening to Gatecrasher Red on Friday night.
The Gatecrasher albums, even the Ministry albums back then were full of amazing tunes.
Now they are not as good by a long way, and just mirror the ****e in the charts.

Saw Deep Purple two years ago - most things from the last 10 years sound the same i.e. *not very good* .... IMHO of course ... and yes, I also remember wondering why my Dad listened to Slim Whitman rather than *up to date* stuff.
He still does listen to him as well - his concession to modern *stuff* is to get me to transfer his old vinyl to CD for him .. no Slim so far but Patsy Cline, Perry Como, Louis Armstrong ('What a Wonderful World" - stunning track!), etc etc
Bet my son goes through exactly the same process .... ho hum ...

Put a bit Basement Jaxx on for yer Mum, come on "Smack my bitch up" she loves it..
Ahem, sorry, lapsed into Peter Kay there. This thread made me think of it.
I'm listenting to a Springsteen Bootleg from 1975 as I type, so I think I fit into the old git bracket (although I was only 4 when what I'm listening to was recorded!).

- Calculating the price of the whole in the middle

- Cleaning your stylus with your finger
- Those record players where you could stack singles to drop down one at a time
- The arm failing to stop and heading off down the hole in the middle

I've been listening to shed loads of 50s stuff. It's been a wonderful voyage of discovery. When music was *music* and artists could really sing. Not like this computer generated pap people get subjected to these days.
Names like: Peggy Lee, Dean Martin, Matt Monro, Tony Bennett, Julie London, Patty Page, Doris Day, Farkie Lane and sooo many more (I've even finally seen the light regarding Elvis Presley )
These were brilliant artists, and only now can I really appreciate why they were so popular in their day. Fabulous stuff, and it gets even better with a few beers under the belt.
