Question

try www.raileurope.co.uk

I'm pretty sure that it's not allowed to buy a rail pass for the country in which you reside.

I've had Eurodomino passes, which were available for any 3, 5, 7, 9 and I think 15 days in 31 consecutive days, and used them extensively in France.

You used to be able to get a Rail rover for the UK, but they were VERY expensive, and only available for 7 or 14 consecutive days...........utterly knackering

God only knows how one would work now, given the number of passenger operators

You can also get them from DB Travel (German Railways) in Surbiton, I'm not sure if they have a website as I only have their phone number which is 0870 243 5363. They can also do seat reservations etc.

No chance. Your best bet might be raileurope again for advice, but searching the net for fares is another route.

DON'T rely on telephone conversations with passenger train enquiries.
Last year I booked an old lady a return Sheffield>Southampton Parkway on Virgin. By doing it on their website I was offered two singles with first-class upgrade instead of a first return.

Saving???? Try nearly £100 on a £130 fare!!!! I think she went and returned for about £32.

Edited to say: if you by a pass, abroad, it excludes the country you buy it in.
And if you are caught using one in the UK and are a UK citizen, it's not valid, so you'll be charged full fare and lucky if you keep the pass!

Yes and No

Yes - there's a website that gives fare comparisons for UK journeys. It's here www.thetrainline.com

No - but it's not provided by BR

Paul

This site might be of interest to you too http://www.seat61.com/

It's meant to be the dogs for worldwide overland journey research/planning. Athough I haven't personally used it I know quite a few who have to good effect.
