SPECS cameras NIP time is exactly the same as that of any other camera, the NIP needs to be served within 14 days of the offence.

NIP - Notice of Intended Prosection this is served on the registered keeper asking them to identify whom the driver was at the time of the offence. Failing to identify the driver is actually an offence in its own right.

FPN - Fixed Penalty Notice, this is used as the means of endorsement for the offence on the driver, e.g. 3 points £60 fine, this is as long as the speed that they were caught at was within the FPN tolerances for the particular police service.

As for the ways and means of getting off offences, if you cant do the time then dont do the crime!

A FPN can be issued either by an officer at the road side if they stop you, however they do also issue them for speeding offences which fall within certain tolerances of speed limits.

ACPO have guidelines (and that is all they are the respective police services across the UK dont have to abide by them) and for example in a 30 the ACPO guidelines say to issue a FPN for speeds between 35-49 MPH and a court summons for 50 MPH and above.

As I said above the NIP needs to be served on the registered keeper of the vehicle within 14 days of the offence.

However if you are a driver of a car and not the registered keeper, e.g. company car, hire car etc... if you dont get the NIP within 14 days it doesn't mean that you have got away with it.

You have to average 70 Mph between gantries on the Stocksbridge bypass; simply 'doing 70' past one camera isnt enough.

The road may well have a 60 Mph limit; but the A616 SPECS system is set to record motorists who average 70 Mph or more between gantries. A SPECS system doesnt take a photograph it simply records your registration number at each camera location; if you exceed a pre-determined average speed (70Mph on this installation) then it will cause an NIP to be issued. You might travel past one camera gantry at 100 Mph but as long as your average speed is below the allowd limit then you wont be procecuted.

Regards

Simon

up to 14 days for the initial NIP to your employers, up to 28 days for them to reply, up to 28 days for the second NIP to reach you, so that's 10 weeks then.

If the company leases the vehicles, add another 8 weeks to that.

These are theroetical maximums, most companies are pretty quick to grass up their employees, and the second and third NIPs go out pretty quickly too as there is no film to process etc. etc.
