Default Pcb Layout

Is anyone familiar with PCB layout software and if so could they reccomend
a decent package that does not cost the earth.

It must be suitable for doing RF boards and be able to save in Gerber format.

try google, also have a look at the usualy suspects like www.download.com and tucows

There's a company called PCB-Pool that advertises in the back of Electronics Weekly that will build prototype PCBs for much cheapness. If your a customer they have some free software available. See the URL below, has lots of links to other software as well.

I use PCAD Accel, but it aint cheap, it was around £1000 a seat a couple of years back.

Depends what you mean by not costing the earth. My personal favourite is PADS PowerPCB, but even that's into four figures.

What sort of technology are we talking here? For RF I presume you're talking quite fine geometry and multi layers.

No it does not have to be multilayer according to our engineer

Mentor Graphics here ..... THE one to have but NOT cheap!

PCAD2004 is fair and cheaper ...
