Star Wars or LOTR trilogy?

Star Wars or LOTR trilogy?
Following on from other threads about movies & the original Star Wars trilogy on ITV
I'm having trouble choosing between them as they are both 2 of my favourite all time films/trilogies but think I have to say Star Wars purely because of how good it still is now from the first part being made before I was born
edited to say: LOTR not technically a trilogy being just one story but I'll class it as one anyway lol

Steve - Should have said the 'original Star Wars Trilogy (Ep 4-6)' then
Possilby will be more than 6 SW films too who knows what'll happen I have a feeling George already wants to make Ep. 7-9. Ep. 1-2 were very disappointing here's to hoping Ep. 3 is a lot better, the trailer looks impressive

Gotta be star wars. After watching episodes 4&5 over xmas on the tv then seeing superman I was amazed at how well the Star Wars films haved aged whereas superman looks positively naff and tacky.
LOTR is very good but Star Wars is so much easier to watch - you can just bosh it on and watch it anytime whereas LOTR I gotta be in the mood to sit down and concentrate.
Simon.
P.S. No lightsabres in LOTR so it cant win

LOTR for me. Redefines how action/adventure/effects movies should be made. I was (just) old enough to enjoy the original Star Wars films in the cinema, and have been a fan of them ever since. In their day they were incredible, but to captivate me like a child at 35 years old, the LOTR films are fantastic. Unlike SW, there won't be anymore unless someone (please PJ ) makes The Hobbit, so they won't be ruined by shoddy pre/se-quels. For 3 years now I've enjoyed the cinema experience (3-4 times each ), then the eager anticipation of the SEE DVD's to get you ready for the next film, and I will miss it (sado). Filmmaking of that calibre is so rare, and as with SW can be easilly spoilt. Look what's happened to the Alien story and Predator
If only JRR was still around to knock out another few books
But there is Gandalfs staff

LOTR was a great book with something for everyone, pity when they made the films they left out any of the parts that might require some intellectual capacity.
Still, that sums up most modern films I'm afraid.

It's got to be the original Star Wars trilogy for me.
LOTR was very good but did miss out some important bits such as Saruman taking over the Shire at the end which was kind of the whole point of the books as it showed that how ever far away from evil if you ignore it it will bite you in the ***

Has to be Star Wars, the films most people grew up with. Regardless of age. You can watch any of the first 3 and immediately get into it. Episodes I & II have been fairly disapointing but they both contained classic star wars elements.
LOTR, ive only seen the first two and they are visually stunning if a little boring in parts. Theres no doubting they are epics though.
Ultimatley though theyre both very differant genres of film and are pretty hard to pic one or the other without being overly biased.
