Red face

I know it's awfully cheeky, and I'll probably get flamed to a crisp, but I have a Sony Laserdisc player and some films which I want to sell to fund a DVD player for home. I figure since many of you will be hifi/Home Cinema buffs, somebody might want to take it off my hands.

Yes, I know the technology's been superceded a bit, but it's still pretty funky
(the player cost £700 about 4 years ago), and you can't get copies of some films
(e.g., the original Star Wars) on DVD yet.

So, it's a Sony MDP-850D Laserdisc player which hasn't actually been used that
much. See

Why don't you just put in the sales section, where people sell things?!

Unhappy

'Cos it's not Scoob-related, so I thought I'd keep it out of the scoob-related forums...?

Mr Otway.

Is it April 1st or something????
Why would anyone pay that much for laserdiscs when they can buy most of those films AND a state-of-the-art dvd player for LESS???
If you're going to post in the wrong forum, at least make it an offer too good to refuse!

Stef.

So make me an offer! £800 might be a little steep, but it's worth what somebody wants to pay for it.

Bear in mind that the Star Wars set alone is worth over £150 - it's a collector's edition and simply isn't available any more (on any format, let alone a digital one).

I priced it slightly high on the basis that I didn't want to undersell it (I have no idea of the demand for this stuff) but I'm certainly open to offers.

Bear in mind the player hasn't been used more than twice in the last 2 years, and is boxed, etc. And many of the films are the more limited versions (e.g., Jurassic Park is the AC3 NTSC version....).

What a rip-off

2 years ago I could have bought a v.good quality Laserdisc player for £80 and 2nd hand software was about £5 - £10 each.

The Star Wars Laserdisc set is worth quite a bit though.

Thanks guys.

But really, I think you're missing the point. I'm certainly not going to post it here for £50 am I? I've absolutely no idea what it's worth - that's down to the buyer. I didn't think anyone would necessarily buy it for £800, but it's a good starting point.

I only mentioned it here as I know there's a few HC enthusiasts here, some of whom might want a LD player. I didn't expect the bloody Spanish inquisition (well, nobody does, do they?) over the price.

I've already said that if anyone thinks that's overpriced, then make me an offer. If not, don't worry about it...
