Default Confused...

Can someone try and clarify this for me?

Basically, a friend of mine was coming back from Newcastle the other week and was pulled by the police. According to him, there was one patrol car someway in front, another behind.

The officer pulled him over and explained to him that he'd followed him doing 50 mph within a 30 zone, and 70 mph within a 50 zone. He received a green slip, detailing the situation and explaining to him that he had to present his driving licence, insurance documents and MOT certificate at the local station within a week, which he did.

Can someone tell me why, even though he'd been travelling 20 mph over the limit throughout, he wasn't given points and/or a fine/ban?

Single copper, no equipment, no corroboration from a colleague?
Either that or PC Plod was feeling generous.

That is very very odd. West Yorkshire are complete ***** when it comes to speed enforcement.

Was there only one officer in the car, as that could explain it. If there's no camera equipment and only one copper then there's no valid evidence so he was just being as annoying as he could be in the circumstances.

I'm not too sure on all of the details, but I'll be sure to find out.

I just know that if I was in the same situation, I'd be sat here with a hole in my pocket and points on my license.

Alternatively: a lot of forces now have 'intent to consider for prosecution' printed on the rear of forms so a summons may be on its way.....

When I got pulled for doing 37 in a 30 the slip with all the details on was green and when you get to the station they take ur license off you then to put the points on. So he might not have been that lucky.

If it's just a producer it will probably have HORT1 written somewhere in the title.

The colour is irrelevent, it'll just be something like green copy to victim, white copy to station, blue copy to whereever

Afew years ago police had set up a roadside speedtrap. I got pulled, and given a producer. Thought i had got away with it, only to find a court summons on my doorstep a couple of months later. £120 fine and 4 points. Why he didnt just give me ticket there and then i dont know.

On another occasion my dad travelling along the same stretch, and going faster than me got given an on the spot fine and 3 points.
