Default scammed on ebay i think advice

bought a gps system on ebay

think i have been scammed -

paid £7.50 postage on top of price, ebay guy had feedback 190+

goods not turned up , have questioned him and get this

"You did not request any different method Some did & paid the excess
costs which I was only too pleased I offer the cheapest so as to
maximise bidders by not putting them off by high post costs.

I will be sending a Copy of the proof as there are Nine other Buyers
on the Proof who may also need a copy.

At present I Have 14 Parcels/packages missing including yours of the
102 I posted that day. Two being recorded delivery & extra Insurance
the PO will no doubt look into the fact they may have a untoward
postie stealing the Parcels(Perhaps one of the Xmas Temps)"

advice please

Because of his good feedback, i would presume he's actually telling the truth.

Hopefully postal insurance will sort it out!

Unhappy

Hi m8
I sent a phone worth £170 and the PO lost it. Because it was only sent recorded delivery I gave the guy his money back & put it down to experience. I now tell people if they don't pay for Special Delivery, I won't be liable. If he did not offer insurance then he really should pay up. If you paid through paypal and take it up with them he will probably lose his case as they do not recognise Recorded delivery as enough proof.
Can also understand his position as so many are lost.
Ask him what he proposes to do.

You can buy higher feed back true, but I look through the auctions on the sellers feedback and make a decision from there.

If there is GENUINE proof of postage then it is down to the post office. If you paid by credit card get in touch with your credit card company immediately.
Contrary to the impression given by e-bay do not expect any help from them, other than standard e-mails in response to yours, alerting them to the problem.

I had an unsatisfactory experience relating to the purchase of a car from a guy called Bundock in Brighton. This was 19 October. Car was described as HPI clear. After the purchase I discover it is HPI recorded, insurance loss. The guy sold the vehicle as a private individual but traded under the name Rixlocks as a locksmith. He has not answered his phone since and I was fobbed off in his only e-mail response. All I have had from e-bay have been numerous standard type e-mails suggesting mediation, how do you mediate with someone who won't communicate with you ? "Until 30 days have passed we can do nothing", etc. etc. etc.

Anybody heard of this guy or his business ?

I know the MD of e-Bay in the UK is Doug McCallum. Anybody know where he hides out or his contact details ? I was previously taken in by the e-Bay community bit but now conclude they are interested in your money with no regard to the bon a fides of any transaction.

Just to add, surprise surprise, the Sussex CID suggested be dealt with as a civil matter. Chocolate fire guards.

Simple rule of thumb when using ebay - never pay more than you can comfortably loose.

Good Ebay feedback is no substitute for a highstreet brandname. The person you purchased from is clearly a trader, but offers none of the reliability of a real company. You pays your money and you makes your choice I suppose.

Not much help to the problem at hand, I know, but hope this perspective helps others to spot the flaw in buying from a stranger because they have the cheapest price....

Another bit of advise for larger/more expensive items on ebay, always send or ask for items to be sent via courier, your insured for the items (fully insured) and they are gonna get there no probs. Plus you'll get quicker delivery, next day for most couriers.
Just add on about £15 for delivery when you work out how much you wanna pay.
