Think il only be sending essential emails after reading this

A brother and sister in the US have been convicted of sending hundreds of thousands of unsolicited e-mail messages to AOL subscribers.
It is the first criminal prosecution of internet spam distributors.
Jurors in Virginia recommended that the man, Jeremy Jaynes, serve nine years in prison and that his sister, Jessica DeGroot, be fined $7,500.
You can just see the bloke in prison out in the yard, convicts next too him talking about why they are inside
1 says im a serial killer
other im a armed robber
then he says i sent too many spam emails

I agree with this.
This act in the US only has full effect if the spammers do other things such as hijacking other's computers to send their spam.
When you consider the number of viruses that turn your PC into a spamming machine, and the problems a sudden bulk load of spam can cause to an ISPs mail servers (which can result in crashes, and loss or delays to legitimate email) suddenly the penalty doesn't seem so bad.
Spamming is quite often hacking and criminal damage in addition to the good being offered often being fradulent or offensive. eg. Pr0n and viagra ads being sent to 12yr olds.
9 years is quite light really.

Its surprising how common it happens, im a AOL user my self *hangs head in shame* and i know quite a few people who have had their accounts hijacked.
What happens is they send a email saying som one has sent you a picture too this AOL youv got pictures thing, then you click on a link too a site that looks like a proper AOL site where you have too log in using ur AOl username and password.
I used too get these emails all the time
Annoying thing is though i replied all too a email the other day and had my account suspended for sendinf unsolicited email.
Quite annoying considering i had a CISCO exam next day and needed too get on their online academy too do som revision.
