My bf got one a few weeks ago cos he works away a lot. He's got to go to Scotland out in the middle of nowhere at the mo and he loves it. Ive got Sat Nav as standard in my car but I was really impressed with the Tom Tom. It re-directs really quickly if needs be, got a range of voices so you don't get annoyed with some yank telling you were to go and if you delete some languages to make room on the memory you can download speed cameras onto it as well. I think they are good value for money if you travel a lot.

I know several people who have them - all seem to be impressed with it. I'm running Tom Tom 3 on a Dell PDA and the mapping software has been great.

I have both

Got TT3 on the PDA and a TT GO. Unless you need the PDA for other reasons, I'd "GO" for the latter. Unless your car has a heat-reflective or heated windscreen.

If you need the PDA, the TomTom HP Navigation Pack is worth considering:

TomTom only does 5 digit postcode lookup (so mine would be CM23 4, which is our entire estate of ~1000 houses). There is a third-party postcode lookup application available at www.digitools.co.uk which is excellent, but it only runs on the PDA version of TomTom.

If you go for the PDA version, unless you have a specific reason for requiring the Bluetooth GPS receiver, go for the wired one. I got the Bluetooth one but it isn't as good as I thought it would be (occasional Bluetooth dropouts and virtually useless for walking around in London unless you can mount the receiver on your shoulder or head).

Got both TTN3 with an Ipaq 5450 and TT GO.

Go is by far the better SatNav tool, unless you need a PDA as well. Much faster and more stable than the Pocket PC OS.

The 5 letter postcode is useless.

I need a six one the one which can direct me to the house rather than the area.

No you've got the wrong end of the stick. You tap in the first few digits of the postcode and then the house number. Takes you to the door.

Question

Makro are advertising the Garmin Quest for £350 (+VAT i think) dont know how this compares to TomTom? TomTomGo is in Evo this month and they had problems with it?

And Costco are advertising the Navman ICN620 at £325 +VAT for one week starting 8-11-04 not sure what this is like?

Great selection but prices will probably drop again

very pleased with my TT Go. just a pity the maps are crap for Northern Ireland. (I know, I know, i seem to bitch about this in every Tomtom thread). Can any recent buyers confirm that the TT Go comes shipped with the new 4.400 firmware?

cheers

Aldi have one of their offers on the Median sat navs coming up soon, the price wasn't confirmed but they're normally a good deal.
